- Leaders' Questions (9 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Has he asked Angela Merkel for her assistance on this matter? We had the President of the European Parliament here for a piece of theatre last week, but would the Taoiseach consider asking Angela Merkel to join him as his guest at the football match on Friday?
- Leaders' Questions (9 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: When I grow a beard, the Ceann Comhairle will be entitled to mistake me for Deputy Gerry Adams, otherwise there is not much of a similarity. Despite the IMF's reservations, the austerity economic policies continue throughout Europe. Nowhere was this more apparent than in Luxembourg yesterday when the ECOFIN Ministers met. What happened was something of a triumph for Europe, in that the...
- Leaders' Questions (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: I thank the Tánaiste for his reply but I would like to correct him. I would be the first to say that the Government should intervene on a day-to-day basis on decisions of this sort. The Government owns it and it has two directors on the bank's board. I do not know what they are there for if they are not there to have an input into policy decisions. AIB has a disgraceful record as...
- Leaders' Questions (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Dick Spring.
- Leaders' Questions (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Perhaps I could be allowed to make the Dáil a Deputy Reilly free zone for the next few minutes to the relief perhaps of some members of the Government. That issue has tended to overshadow an equally important issue which happened three days ago and one day ago. Three days ago AIB bondholders were paid €1 billion and one day ago AIB mortgage holders were charged another 0.5% on...
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Is it within our remit to broaden that somewhat? The various CIE companies receive almost €300 million between them. Their accounts are audited separately. Is there any way for anyone to trace whether the money these companies receive from the Exchequer goes to the places to which it is directed? Does the Comptroller and Auditor General do this?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: I know. The money comes from this Department.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: When it leaves the Department, it goes to CIE and is lost somewhere in the mess there. I am not sure the auditors regard it as their duty to see that it goes to the right place. Is there any way we can include the subsidy which is getting bigger rather than smaller in our remit to ensure it is directed and spent as the State wishes it to be spent?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Is there a trail? That is not being done, is it?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: To the Department-----
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Yes.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: That is alarming. When Mr. McCarthy says "it is a little more difficult", does he mean it cannot be done?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: It is just not done.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Would that apply to the €300 million that goes to the three CIE companies? Is it the case that we cannot actually be sure where that money goes?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Would that be the case with regard to Iarnród Éireann also?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Will Mr. McCarthy come back to the committee on that issue?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: How will we find this individual?
- Order of Business (3 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: It is fine.

- Written Answers — Department of Finance: Financial Services Regulation (3 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: To ask the Minister for Finance the reason the Central Bank of Ireland should not compensate clients of Custom House Capital for moneys stolen from Pension Funds from March 2009 when they received information that Custom House Capital when not complying with the requirements of the Financial Regulator until July 2011 when they sought to seek the appointment of High Court Inspectors to...
