Questions on Promised Legislation (9 Mar 2017)

Brian Stanley: Guidelines on wind farms are long promised. They were first promised four years ago and four Ministers ago. Wind farm proposals are continuing to receive planning permission and are proceeding to construction. The reason for the latest delay is the European Court of Justice's ruling on the Belgian case. It sets a requirement for a strategic environmental assessment. That will take time....

Other Questions: Court Accommodation Provision (2 Mar 2017)

Brian Stanley: 6. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the progress that has been made by the OPW on securing a site for a new courthouse in Portlaoise. [10490/17]

Other Questions: Court Accommodation Provision (2 Mar 2017)

Brian Stanley: My question relates to the OPW and the securing of a new site for a badly needed courthouse in Portlaoise. The Courts Service was centralised in various counties over recent years. All court cases in Laois are currently being held in Portlaoise, which has resulted in a very busy building. What progress is being made on the matter?

Other Questions: Court Accommodation Provision (2 Mar 2017)

Brian Stanley: I am aware that the OPW will not carry out the work, but it is involved. It is its job to find a suitable site. The Department of Justice and Equality passed us back to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform. I originally tabled the question to the Minister for Justice and Equality. The current courthouse on the main street is totally unsuitable. There are no parking areas...

Other Questions: Court Accommodation Provision (2 Mar 2017)

Brian Stanley: I am glad to hear that some progress is being made. There is a site beside the Midlands Prison which local public representatives have highlighted for years. It is adjacent to the Midlands Prison and Portlaoise Prison, which would mean that prisoners would not have to be brought in convoys to and from the prison for court sittings. Other sites can be identified. There have been violent...

Other Questions: Schools Building Projects Status (1 Mar 2017)

Brian Stanley: 31. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the timeframe for the construction of the new boys' and girls' primary school in Monasterevin. [10327/17]

Other Questions: Schools Building Projects Status (1 Mar 2017)

Brian Stanley: I welcome the Minister's reply to the question. From the point of view of the school and the local community, there cannot be any delays after this goes to planning permission. Monasterevin is in dire need of a new primary school. The accommodation at St. Peter's school and at the girls' St. Evin's school is chronic. I was in St. Evin's school and it is impossible to heat. It has a felt...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals and Impact of Brexit on the Irish Energy Market: Discussion (28 Feb 2017)

Brian Stanley: I thank our guests for attending and for providing us with this information. I have a number of questions. The first of which is for the CER. While energy prices, in terms of gas and oil, have dropped and we have more renewable energy on stream, customers are not benefiting from the reduction in energy prices. My electricity bill continues to increase every year despite the fact that we...
