Asylum Applications. (27 Apr 2006)

Ciarán Cuffe: It should be noted that some aged out minors have no homes to return to, that they have fled war zones and in some cases their parents were slaughtered as they fled. The Minister used the term "flood". I ask that he withdraw that as it is an injudicious term to use with regard to migrants to this country. Will he consider carefully the case of aged out minors who have lived in Ireland for...

Garda Divisional Boundaries. (27 Apr 2006)

Ciarán Cuffe: The issue is that the policing districts bear little relationship to local authority areas, Dáil constituencies, HSE health areas or postal districts. This makes it difficult to put a meaningful interpretation on statistics from the Garda Síochána. If the statistics are difficult to interpret, it will make for poor policing and poor analysis of data. Will the Minister bring his influence...

Garda Divisional Boundaries. (27 Apr 2006)

Ciarán Cuffe: Insurance companies do it that way.

Garda Divisional Boundaries. (27 Apr 2006)

Ciarán Cuffe: I put it to the Minister that we need greater co-ordination of data. I have heard anecdotes about bodies being pushed from one side of a river or canal to another to try to get a Garda division off the hook. When insurance companies charge different premia depending on one's postal district, that suggests a need for meaningful districts and areas allowing us to consider health and policing...

Electoral Registration Commissioner Bill 2005: Second Stage (Resumed). (26 Apr 2006)

Ciarán Cuffe: There has always been an undercurrent of problems with the register, particularly with the advent of computers some time in the 1960s. The technology certainly existed for some degree of cross-checking as between local authorities. Electoral Registration Commissioner Bill 2005: Second Stage (Resumed). (26 Apr 2006)

Ciarán Cuffe: There appears to be a small but significant group of crocodiles on the far side of the House who are crying their eyes out about the condition of the electoral register. I would remind them that they have been office for the previous nine years and have had ample opportunity to address this issue, which has been discussed——
