BusConnects: Motion [Private Members] (19 Sep 2018)

Ruth Coppinger: Why pay €400,000 to a consultant to create a re-jigging of existing bus routes and dress it up as being something more frequent? The Minister has said this will ease congestion. That means getting people out of cars. Why would people get out of cars to get two buses rather than one? It makes no sense. In the case of my own area, which is obviously a pattern from what others have...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Clinical Guidelines for the Introduction of Abortion Services: Discussion (19 Sep 2018)

Ruth Coppinger: I thank the witnesses for attending. I want to bring the conversation back to the women who are travelling, with over 1,000 having had to do that since we voted in May. We will never know the exact figure but from studies which have been done on telemedicine providers, up to five people a day in Ireland use abortion pills purchased online. These are the key people that we need to take into...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Clinical Guidelines for the Introduction of Abortion Services: Discussion (19 Sep 2018)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Clinical Guidelines for the Introduction of Abortion Services: Discussion (19 Sep 2018)

Ruth Coppinger: Chairman, I wish to correct the record. There is no mention of a 72-hour waiting period in the report of the Committee on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution. That is important because it was stated that we all voted for it. Any time that issue was raised, it was shot down by experts.

An Bille um an Seachtú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht (Cion a aisghairm arb éard é ní diamhaslach a fhoilsiú nó a aithris) 2018: An Dara Céim - Thirty-seventh Amendment of the Constitution (Repeal of offence of publication or utterance of blasphemous matter) Bill 2018: Second Stage (18 Sep 2018)

Ruth Coppinger: Solidarity supports the Bill and will campaign for a "Yes" vote in the referendum. We formally proposed the removal of the offence of blasphemy in our Bill in July 2017. The 1937 Constitution which is being amended was designed in a Catholic state where the Catholic Church held a privileged and special position. There are multiple references specifically from a Catholic or Christian...
