- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Suicide Prevention (27 Sep 2018)
Brian Stanley: I welcome the opportunity to address this matter with the Minister of State. I acknowledge he is concerned about suicide and self-harm. He takes a personal interest in these matters. They are all too common across the State. Statistics show that, last year alone, there was an average of one suicide per day in the State. This means one life too many was lost per day. Save Our Sons and...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Suicide Prevention (27 Sep 2018)
Brian Stanley: I thank Minister of State for his response. There is a positive note in it. My information is that the national organisation applied for funding. From what the Minister of State outlined, I believe the local branches need to apply through the HSE locally for lottery funding. Section 38 and section 39 applications might be difficult because they tend to relate to the bigger organisations...

Brian Stanley: I welcome the witnesses from the ESB, the Department and the SEAI. Mr. Griffin mentioned that communities have to be at the heart of it. I come from the midlands and I agree that we need wind energy but question the approach of the Government and companies driving the wind farm industry in my area. We must take a responsible approach but the opposite has been the case in the Department's...

Many also now wish to play their part in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. They are users of power. If they could erect solar panels on some of their farm buildings, it would help.

- Confidence in the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government: Motion [Private Members] (25 Sep 2018)
Brian Stanley: I welcome the opportunity to speak on this motion. In the past, housing was seen as a basic social need. Between 1932 and 1950, between one third and half of all housing built was social housing. In the bleak 1930s, more than 38,000 houses were built. In the hungry 1950s, 52,000 houses were built. In the 1970s, when the economy was not exactly booming because of the oil crisis and...
