Seanad: Water Fluoridation: Motion (30 Jan 2013)

Caít Keane: I meant to say that it is not imposed on people there. I am seeking basic information because I cannot be a hypocrite on this issue. I cannot have one view on South Dublin County Council, yet have another one in here. I am totally confused by the issue.

Seanad: Water Fluoridation: Motion (30 Jan 2013)

Caít Keane: That is what I hope to be. I have learned a lot in 15 years but I have learned very little about fluoridation of water. I do know, however, that more countries are banning it now than 15 years ago when I researched it. The question I am asking is why this is the case.

Seanad: Water Fluoridation: Motion (30 Jan 2013)

Caít Keane: I support the Government's action because, as I said earlier, I am no wiser today than I was 15 years ago when I tabled a motion at a meeting of South Dublin County Council to ban fluoride. I got the same answers then that I got today in terms of scientific research. I want the expert working group to answer the question. We have heard both sides of the argument but we, as...

Seanad: Water Fluoridation: Motion (30 Jan 2013)

Caít Keane: Like Senator Quinn I can also go back quite a few years with regard to this issue, as I tabled a motion in South Dublin County Council on the matter. I have four pages to read but I do not know whether to read out two pages for or two pages against fluoridation. I am no wiser now than 15 years ago about fluoridation because there is scientific evidence to support both sides. I shall scrap...

Seanad: Order of Business (30 Jan 2013)

Caít Keane: I did not have an opportunity yesterday to express my sympathy to Senator Imelda Henry on the death of her mother, also the wife of ex-councillor, Peter Henry, also to whom I did not have an opportunity yesterday to express my sympathy. I express those sympathies today. I also express my sympathy to Caroline, the wife of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe, who died and will be buried today, and...

Seanad: Water Services Bill 2013: Committee and Remaining Stages (29 Jan 2013)

Caít Keane: I welcome the Minister of State. I have not yet spoken on this Stage of the Bill because I did not want to repeat exactly what was said the last time. I thank the Minister of State for giving the same answers today with regard to poverty proofing as he gave when the questions were raised by most Senators on Second Stage. That people who cannot afford to pay will not pay is an important...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Establishment of Planning Regulator: Discussion with Minister of State (29 Jan 2013)

Caít Keane: I welcome the Minister of State and her officials. This is D-Day for planning in Ireland given that the Minister of State is here with the recommendation to implement the policy of the Mahon tribunal which is accepted by the Government as a whole. We have to call the Mahon tribunal what it was: the planning matters, payments and corrupt payments to politicians tribunal. Given that it took...

Seanad: Address to Seanad Éireann by Mr. Gay Mitchell, MEP (24 Jan 2013)

Caít Keane: I am delighted to welcome Mr. Mitchell to the House. I began my political life in Dublin South-Central with Gay. I also welcome Norma Mitchell. They say that in front of every great man there is a great woman. The name "Mitchell" stands for what is good in politics, what is good for Dublin and good for Europe. I remember his brother Jim, Lord have mercy on him. I have a question on...

They are being supported by members of the Garda and the Police Service of Northern Ireland. As a member of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly I believe that support is welcome and I hope all Members will support them today and all the great work they do, not only during the Olympics...
