- Order of Business (21 Oct 2015)
Dessie Ellis: Following the recent tragic deaths in Carrickmines and the subsequent reaction of residents in blocking the resettlement of displaced families, could the Taoiseach organise a debate on discrimination against the Traveller community so that we can speak about the rights and ethnicity of that community and the blatant bigotry that exists in our society?

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Sport Ireland: Chairperson Designate (21 Oct 2015)
Dessie Ellis: I thank Mr. Mulvey for his presentation and wish him the best. I respect his honesty. He was passionate about the way he sees this. I was surprised that he was so straightforward in terms of what has happened. It is a great pity that we have Mr. Mulvey here to talk about all the issues around Sport Ireland but have ended up debating the whole Billy Walsh issue. I will touch on it...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Sport Ireland: Chairperson Designate (21 Oct 2015)
Dessie Ellis: I raised the point because there is a huge conflict between the general sporting industry and the horse racing industry in trying to prevent it getting a grip in the way that it is a big sport in America, Wales and France. It is also very commercial.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Emissions Readings for Volkswagen Cars: Discussion (21 Oct 2015)
Dessie Ellis: I thank Mr. Himmer and Mr. Nolan for their presentation. The first reaction of most people to this issue has been the scale of the problem, not only here but across the Continent. The reason this continued from 2009 and was only discovered in 2015 is difficult for anybody to understand. If the problem is confined to the EA189 engine and there are three different versions of it and if it is...

- Proceeds of Sale of Aer Lingus: Motion (20 Oct 2015)
Dessie Ellis: First, I will comment on how the debate has been scheduled. The provision of just five minutes per speaker on such an important topic is very disappointing, particularly given that it will pass through the Seanad without even any nod to a debate. The discussion on the distribution of €335 million from the controversial sale of the State's share in Aer Lingus warrants a real debate....
