Special Report on New EU Legislation: Statements. (20 Nov 2008)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: From a democratic point of view, the amount of material before the committee is problematic. Like others, I urge that more resources be given to it and its members to address the range of issues and technical legislation with which it must deal. Most members can only give some of the topics a cursory glance, yet we are subsequently criticised if something slips through. While that is right...

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32 (19 Nov 2008)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of urgent national importance, namely, the need for the Government to introduce legislation to regulate management companies that are ripping off mortgage holders in new apartment and housing complexes. In light of the increasing job losses and rising home repossessions, the Government must protect mortgage holders...

Gangland Crime: Motion (18 Nov 2008)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Gabhaim buíochas le Deputy Rabbitte as ucht a chuid ama a roinnt liom ar an gceist rí-thábhachtach seo. Rinne mé iarracht leasú a chur síos agus, go bhfios dom, níl an Leas-Cheann Comhairle ag glacadh leis ag an am seo, ach b'fhéidir go mbeidh raic agam amárach faoin leasú sin. I welcome the opportunity to speak again on the issue of serious organised crime. We addressed it last...

Rural Transport. (18 Nov 2008)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Does the Minister agree that to expand the rural transport projects, they must be flexible and responsive to demand? I refer in particular to the potential to attract young people at night and hopefully prevent fatal car crashes such as those seen in recent years.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Question 83: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the way the 5% cut in funding to the drugs initiatives and young people's services fund will impact on the delivery of the national drugs strategy. [40998/08]

National Drugs Strategy. (18 Nov 2008)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Is the Minister of State aware of the drugs task forces' anger over the cut in funding and the head-in-the-sand attitude of viewing funding in the context of 2003? Since then, there has been an explosion in the availability of illegal drugs, some of which have been mentioned and others that are emerging, such as crack cocaine — its usage has increased by 500% in Crumlin — crystal meth...

National Drugs Strategy. (18 Nov 2008)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I do not know from where the Minister of State gets his figures, but he has not read them. The Dublin 12 task forces will experience a reduction. Perhaps the overall figure will remain the same, but cutting their funding is ridiculous, given from where they come. Those communities were disadvantaged for years and did not benefit from the Celtic tiger.

National Drugs Strategy. (18 Nov 2008)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Question 81: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if, in the context of developing the new national drugs strategy he or his Department's officials have consulted with the Irish Pharmaceutical Union on the matter of the production of crystal meths; and if he has engaged with the Minister for Health and Children or the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to...

National Drugs Strategy. (18 Nov 2008)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Does the Minister of State agree that prevention is better than cure in this instance and does he agree that crystal meths is gaining a foothold in Europe?
