- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Implementation of the New National Retrofit Plan: Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (5 Apr 2022)
Christopher O'Sullivan: This is a very timely session on retrofitting, especially given the findings of the recent report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC. The IPCC cannot give enough warnings that we have only a certain amount of time to turn this around in order that we do not leave behind a disastrous situation for future generations. There is a considerable onus on us to turn this around...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Implementation of the New National Retrofit Plan: Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (5 Apr 2022)
Christopher O'Sullivan: We understand that. I will ask about retrofitting, warmer schemes and the 80% grant for attic and cavity wall insulation, in particular. If we abandon the carbon tax trajectory, does the SEAI have to completely remodel its forecast and reassess how many of these homes it can get retrofitted in the next couple of years?

- Circular Economy, Waste Management (Amendment) and Minerals Development (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second Stage (Resumed) (31 Mar 2022)
Christopher O'Sullivan: I thank the Minister of State and the Department for bringing this important Bill to the Oireachtas. I also want to single out the contribution of Deputy Bruton. When the Committee on Environment and Climate Action first convened over 18 months ago, he led on waste and the circular economy and he had a real passion. He was passionate about it, he wanted to contribute and he contributed in...
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (31 Mar 2022)
Christopher O'Sullivan: It is only in the most extreme and exceptional circumstances that I bring individual cases up on the Dáil floor. I have full permission to use the names of the individuals in question - Gerald and Norah Orpen and their two children, Gerald and Gavin. The children were adopted from Russia when they were aged one and two, respectively. At that point they lived in the US but in 2010 the...

- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Pigmeat Sector (29 Mar 2022)
Christopher O'Sullivan: Deputy Carthy is correct. This is cyclical, but pig farmers have never seen a dip quite as serious. The price of feed is skyrocketing and the price of the product is dipping like never before. Farmers expect the price of the product to stabilise and even come back, but the price of feed shows no sign of decreasing. It is a crisis. The proposed stability fund put to the Minister is what...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Pigmeat Sector (29 Mar 2022)
Christopher O'Sullivan: I thank the Minister. I am aware that he met some of the protesters today. They were impressed by his knowledge of the sector and acknowledgment that they are in crisis and that steps need to be taken to stem it. I do not have to tell him that the pig industry in Ireland is worth €1.7 billion to the economy and employs approximately 8,000 people, but he may not know what it is worth...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Energy Challenges: Discussion (29 Mar 2022)
Christopher O'Sullivan: I thank the witnesses for their opening statements. I was concerned last year when the CRU attended a meeting of the committee and would not rule out the future building of LNG terminals or infrastructure of that sort in Ireland. Today it seems there is even stronger advocacy of the building of LNG terminals to ensure energy security. The reason I am concerned is that this comes in the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Energy Challenges: Discussion (29 Mar 2022)
Christopher O'Sullivan: I get the point regarding the interconnectors and their close proximity. If something happens, we are in jeopardy. It was mentioned that construction will finish on the Greenlink interconnector in 2024 and on the Celtic interconnector in 2027. Surely, by the time they are in place, they will give us the security we need before we go down the route of LNG terminals.
