- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: EirGrid: Chairman Designate (26 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I welcome Mr. Tuohy and thank him for his presentation. He set out a good understanding of the challenges facing EirGrid and he is familiar with the fact that parts of the grid are creaking, particularly in a large urban area like Dublin. He is aware that electricity is generated from gas on mobile generators in certain parts of the city in order to meet the demand of the growing population...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: EirGrid: Chairman Designate (26 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: It is the success of the economy rather than EirGrid.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: EirGrid: Chairman Designate (26 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I refer to the use of mobile generators powered by gas within industrial units. I am not talking about EirGrid's generation of electricity.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: EirGrid: Chairman Designate (26 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: Because of the state of the grid at present, in plenty of industrial estates around this city there are mobile generators powered by, in some cases, oil but principally gas in order to generate electricity for the demand of that particular industrial zone. That does not seem like a good overall plan. It is something that needs to be addressed in the future.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Data Collection by Digital Assistants: Discussion (26 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I thank both the witnesses for their presentations. I think I was among a number of people who raised this issue back when Apple made an announcement - it was probably reported in The Guardianor one of those publications - that a number of people had been let go because of the issue of human review of sensitive private conversations. We were probably all a little concerned that more...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Data Collection by Digital Assistants: Discussion (26 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I am trying to get to the point where the purchaser or user is informed upfront that there is a potential for this hazard so that before someone begins the process and there is the potential for any processing of data, he or she is clear that there are potential pitfalls. We all like to think that technology is now so advanced that there is no potential for mistakes to be made, but, of...
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (21 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I refer to the Sláintecare report and the issue raised by my colleague, Deputy Calleary, about potential cuts to community pharmacies. Can the Tánaiste explain why vulnerable medical card holders will now have to pay €10 per month to have their medicines separated into the daily dosage? This service was provided free of charge heretofore. The family of a vulnerable...
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Hospital Waiting Lists (21 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: 140. To ask the Minister for Health the status of a surgery appointment for a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [48359/19]
- Hospital Overcrowding: Motion [Private Members] (20 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: Like other Deputies who represent the mid-west, I draw the Minister's attention to the crisis at University Hospital Limerick. From an accident and emergency perspective, it is wholly unacceptable. I do not want to fan the flames or personalise this matter. The whole political process and a whole-of-Government approach are needed here. I will cite a couple of cases that I have found...
- Written Answers — Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forestry Sector (20 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: 224. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if the majority of forestry licences were taking 99 days plus prior to the introduction of the new appropriate assessment procedure (details supplied) when the licence process will be capable of delivering a sustainable work flow to the forest industry in view of the fact that the sector is facing significant redundancies in...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Supporting a Just Transition: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I welcome Ms King and the team and thank them for their work. To what extent does she think the work of a just transition commissioner should be extended beyond its current scope, which is principally in the midlands in respect of the end of the burning of peat for generating electricity? The ESB has reduced considerably its burning of coal in Clare, the constituency I represent. That was...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Supporting a Just Transition: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I thank the Chair and I apologise to the guests, because like Deputy Naughton I was caught in the Dáil on a health debate earlier, but I did get a chance to read some of the stuff, and I am reasonably familiar with some of the issues. I am not going to rehearse matters because I assume a lot of the questions have been asked. I was here for the ICTU presentation, and there seemed to be...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Supporting a Just Transition: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I acknowledge that a sunset of 2025 was introduced for the plant in 2015. It was not expected that there would be a significant shift in employment terms as early as 2019. The expectation was that the company had four or five years to transition and get a plan together. That transition period has not been provided and I accept that commercial reality. Now that the bus has effectively...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Supporting a Just Transition: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I have an open mind on the proposal. This is not meant to be a partisan, political statement but I regularly sit in the Dáil Chamber where motions are passed instructing the Government and Ministers to do all sorts of things which are not done.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Supporting a Just Transition: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I am happy to support the proposal.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Supporting a Just Transition: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: To some extent, this is a bit like Hamlet without the prince. Maybe we should have the just transition commissioner before the committee before making a decision. We should not jump the gun. We had a good discussion and we heard both sides. I would like to hear from Kieran Mulvey to find out where he is at because we do not want to hamstring him either. Mr. Mulvey will be charged with...
- Personal Assistance Service: Motion (19 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I wish to take this opportunity to thank Deputy Pringle and others for bringing this important motion to the House. I am very familiar with the issue of personal assistance and its importance to the lives of people with disabilities. I am in this position because of a very strong advocacy group that has existed in County Clare for many years. This very strong and active advocacy group,...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Illegal Dumping: Discussion (Resumed) (12 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: I thank Dr. Ryan and his team for their comprehensive statement. The EPA has been so frank and open that there is not a lot to question in the detail. ESB Networks clearly had information that it did not share with the appropriate authorities. It was aware of the leaks because it did provide information on them to the EPA at a later stage. It is clear that at a minimum, the company failed...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Illegal Dumping: Discussion (Resumed) (12 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: All of the other leaks that have now been highlighted would not have come to light but for the work of "RTÉ Investigates" and the involvement of the whistleblower. Is that correct?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Illegal Dumping: Discussion (Resumed) (12 Nov 2019)
Timmy Dooley: This was my only question but I wish to comment on the matter. This vindicates the actions of the whistleblower and "RTÉ Investigates" for bringing such important information to the fore, which now allows the EPA to do its work. We have had difficulties with the ESB in the past regarding the way in which the whistleblower was being treated. I know this is a HR issue and I do not want...
