- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Inland Fisheries Ireland: Discussion (22 Jan 2019)
Brian Stanley: The presentation outlines a figure of 83 prosecutions, which seems quite low considering the number of inspections carried out and the number of hours involved. A huge number of patrols and inspections were carried out. I think I saw a figure of 33,000.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Inland Fisheries Ireland: Discussion (22 Jan 2019)
Brian Stanley: I have two further questions. I will be brief. It is alarming that salmon stocks are down to approximately 15% of what they were in the 1970s. In terms of salmon coming into our rivers, the figure has fallen from an estimated 3 million to possibly as low as 240,000. To what is this attributed? Is it due to marine activity, plastic pollution or global warming? It is an extreme example...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Inland Fisheries Ireland: Discussion (22 Jan 2019)
Brian Stanley: My final question concerns licensing. I do not want to reopen the debate on the permit system but I do not understand the licensing regime. In certain areas, one will see signs for licences. Will Dr. Byrne give us a brief outline of the way fish licences work for inland fisheries because I am totally confused about it?

- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (17 Jan 2019)
Brian Stanley: People who are in receipt of family income support cannot get onto the housing waiting list. I raise this with the Tánaiste because I received a reply from the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government yesterday.
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (17 Jan 2019)
Brian Stanley: I will just read the relevant sentence. It says that as part of the broader social housing reform agenda, a review of income eligibility will take place in each area. The Minister goes on to say-----
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (17 Jan 2019)
Brian Stanley: The reply is a lot of waffle and it does not deal with the situation. It says the Housing Agency is continuing to carry out the detailed statistical work which should underpin the review on behalf of the Department.
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (17 Jan 2019)
Brian Stanley: That is going on for three years while people caught in private rented accommodation cannot get a mortgage or loan under the new affordable housing scheme and cannot get onto a housing waiting list.
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (17 Jan 2019)
Brian Stanley: I want the Tánaiste to give me a clear answer as to when this madness will change.
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (17 Jan 2019)
Brian Stanley: It should at least be moved on.
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (17 Jan 2019)
Brian Stanley: On the income thresholds for social housing, it is stated on page 22 of the programme for Government, which was drafted nearly three years ago, that the Government will "prioritise those on the lowest incomes and avoid creating social welfare traps". The reality in the case of Laois and Offaly is that hundreds of families are caught in a ridiculous limbo situation, with outdated income...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Third Report of the Citizens' Assembly: Discussion (Resumed) (16 Jan 2019)

There has been reference to legislative action and what happens here. I held this brief in the previous Dáil as Sinn Féin spokesperson on the environment. I was part of the group that produced the committee report for the Climate Action and Low Carbon...
