- Other Questions: Anti-Social Behaviour (1 May 2013)
Róisín Shortall: I thank the Minister of State, but I got no sense of urgency from her response. We must accept the fact that people who pay their rent and live with the scourge of neighbours' anti-social behaviour also have human rights and are entitled to live in peace and harmony, free from the types of trouble caused by anti-social tenants. Their rights should be upheld. Does the Minister of State...
- Other Questions: Anti-Social Behaviour (1 May 2013)
Róisín Shortall: When?
- Other Questions: Anti-Social Behaviour (1 May 2013)
Róisín Shortall: With all due respect, saying "sometime this year" is not good enough. Officials cannot take action. While nobody wants to see anyone being made homeless, councils must have the ultimate sanction of evicting people who make life hell for their neighbours. This behaviour can be found in many communities. We need urgent action. Law-abiding tenants in local authority housing deserve better.

- Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report Stage (Resumed) (24 Apr 2013)
Róisín Shortall: There is always a tendency for Ministers and their Departments to hold the line on something and maintain that they are right. Obviously, they have done a lot of the work on it and there is generally a reluctance to accept amendments from the Opposition. That is standard practice regardless of the Minister's party, but it is an old-fashioned way of doing business in many ways and...
- Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report Stage (Resumed) (24 Apr 2013)
Róisín Shortall: I have not heard that. The Moran report has made it clear that the generic substitutes for drugs for persons with epilepsy that are listed among the categories for use and for prescribing for people with epilepsy are currently not safe. If the Minister accepts that, action must be taken to avoid the potential risk for people in the event - and it is not an unlikely event - that somewhere...
- Other Questions: Rent Support Schemes (24 Apr 2013)
Róisín Shortall: I also wish to focus on Fingal, which is an area close to home for the Minister and me. The issue in question is the rent cap for accommodation for lone parents with one child, which is currently €775 per month. I am aware of the case of a person who has been in accommodation for the past seven years. The rent was reduced previously, she negotiated it down to €950 and it has...
- Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report Stage (24 Apr 2013)
Róisín Shortall: The Minister of State's response is disappointing. These concerns are not vexatious or frivolous in any way. As other Members have stated, there is not a queue of people objecting to generic substitution. The group to whom we refer is the only group objecting. It is doing so on very good grounds. Does the Minister of State accept that it is not currently safe to substitute generic drugs...
