Shane Cassells: They are saying they are putting in additional resources but I am making the point and putting it on record that there are in excess of 1,000 businesses whose rates revaluations are on appeal. This goes back to cases from Westmeath, Longford and that area, whose revaluations were conducted more than one year ago.

Shane Cassells: What is the average waiting time for the appeals process? In County Westmeath the revaluation happened last year or the year before. Is that county cleared now in terms of the appeals process? What is the average waiting time?

Shane Cassells: The backlog nationwide is an issue. We will do a major piece of work to increase the capacity of the Valuation Tribunal. There is a review of that tribunal that includes local authorities and other stakeholders. The review is under way and I hope to close it off fairly quickly.
