Andrew Doyle: I will call Deputy Penrose and we will have another group of five later.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Farm Inspections: Health and Safety Authority (29 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: I ask Mr. O'Halloran to respond to those points. We would normally be focused on questions, but the committee is anxious to work with the witnesses. There is a depth of knowledge and experience here with suggestions that might help. That is why I am allowing members to expand somewhat beyond questions.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Farm Inspections: Health and Safety Authority (29 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: I call Senator Michael Comiskey.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Farm Inspections: Health and Safety Authority (29 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: I wish to make an interesting observation on an area that has been covered by previous speakers. I am not sure if the representatives would have a view on it and I appreciate their authority is not the competent authority in this area. There are people who have had a full, clean licence for 15 years who at the time of the change in the rules applying to the licence inadvertently did not get...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Farm Inspections: Health and Safety Authority (29 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: We will leave it at that. The authority, in its presentation, stated: "Bringing about such a change cannot be achieved by a single entity or a single approach." This is probably the nub of the matter. The Health and Safety Authority is a very important cog in the machinery when trying to ensure farm accidents are eliminated, which they probably never will be, or reduced to a number...

To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will provide an update on the development of a long-term strategic plan for the N11 in order to cater for merging with the M50 and secondary exits, as agreed by the National Road Authority; if the review group for southbound and northbound proposals has been established in order to assess suitability for greater traffic volumes,...

Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Cycle Network (20 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: 614. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if there will be a new round of funding for cycleways under the national cycle network funding scheme; if so, when the funding will come on stream in 2015; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2731/15]

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Dairy Sector: Irish Dairy Board (15 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: We shall resume in public session to discuss the EU scrutiny proposals that are before us today. It is proposed that the proposals listed in Schedule B do not warrant further scrutiny. Is that agreed? Agreed. I remind members and witnesses to switch off their phones. I welcome Mr. Aaron Forde, chairman, Mr. Bernard Condon, director of the trade and ingredients division, and Ms Anne...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Dairy Sector: Irish Dairy Board (15 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: I wish to ask a few questions but I must suspend the meeting due to a vote in the Dáil.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Dairy Sector: Irish Dairy Board (15 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: On the acquisitions, there were 41,000 tonnes extra last year in advance of a growing supply pool. What impact does that sort of possible year-on-year growth - I am not saying one can do it every year - have on the predicted increased pool of milk that will be coming on stream? Mr. Forde mentioned acquisitions the IDB have made. What are they? One of Mr. Forde's slides mentioned the need...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Dairy Sector: Irish Dairy Board (15 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: There was also a question about intervention.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Dairy Sector: Irish Dairy Board (15 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: One would have to question the value of having an intervention price set at world market prices. It does not do anything to act as a cushion. It is irrelevant if the product is at world market price except that it is the buying price.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Dairy Sector: Irish Dairy Board (15 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: Does that include the carbon footprint?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Dairy Sector: Irish Dairy Board (15 Jan 2015)

Andrew Doyle: That is the simple one for people to understand.
