Imelda Munster: Yes, and it is the same case with Permanent TSB. I am curious. Why would Irish banks not pass on the hundreds of millions of euro they are receiving from their deposits with the ECB? Why are they not passing that on to customers, particularly when their interest rates are only 0.1%?

Imelda Munster: Part of the Central Bank's remit is the public interest, safeguarding financial stability and making sure that the system operates in the best interests of consumers. However, thus far, Mr. Makhlouf has not met with the banks even to discuss that particular point about deposit interest rates being so low.
