- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: We cannot lose sight of how important that work is for preventing any repetition of what happened in Tralee. There are two high-dependency CAMHS beds, eight specialist beds and 14 acute emergency beds at Linn Dara. What is the average turnover time for users admitted to the 14 acute emergency beds?
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: To those 14 beds specifically.
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)

- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: Are the two beds at 100% capacity? What would be the percentage capacity over a 12-month period?
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: What I am trying to get a handle on is whether the two high-dependency beds are frequently used. Clearly, they are needed. That is why they are there. Are they used all of the time or, if not, for what percentage of time are they occupied?
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: Roughly.
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: Is there a need for more than two?
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: That is good. Does Dr. Doody find that Linn Dara does not see young people again after they have been treated in and discharged from the eating disorder unit in particular or are there repeat presentations? What would the figures be for that?
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: I refer to that increase from 47 referrals to 197 referrals. What would Dr. Doody attribute that almost fourfold increase in referrals to?
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: That is one of the negative and lasting legacies of the pandemic. I refer to family supports. Does Linn Dara have any family support programme for its inpatients and for the people it engages with?
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: Okay. It is hoped that in the autumn the committee may have representatives of the Irish National Teachers Organisation, INTO, before it to talk about what they are doing, their mental health programme and how they can support the work Linn Dara does. Finally, there is the issue of aftercare. Does Linn Dara have aftercare or is it at such a level that aftercare is under a different ambit?
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: In an ideal world what extra supports would the Linn Dara service like to have? Is there an ask, essentially?
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: That is wonderful. I thank the witnesses and thank them for the work they do.
- Joint Committee On Health: Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion (28 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: I welcome our guests and thank them for their contributions and the work they do on behalf of the people of Ireland. I understand that there has been a national review into what happened in Tralee last year and what was exposed there. Would the witnesses like to make any comments on that matter? Have they engaged with this review?
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (23 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: I welcome the fact that it has just been announced that the leaving certificate results will be available on Friday, 2 September. While it is late and there is no point in saying otherwise, at least the students now have a date. As the leaving certificate examinations draw to a conclusion, I wish all the young people involved a very enjoyable summer. They well deserve it and have it well...

Martin Conway: Hear, hear.
- Seanad: Neurology Nurses: Motion (22 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: I am sharing time with Senator Buttimer. We will take three minutes each. I thank my Independent colleagues for tabling this motion. I remind Senator Boyhan that I have, on a number of occasions, highlighted the lack of neurological nurses in the mid-west and nationally on the Order of Business and through Commencement matters. I very much support the Patients Deserve Better campaign. I...
- Seanad: Neurology Nurses: Motion (22 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: I am sorry. I thought I spoke for under the three minutes.
- Seanad: Neurology Nurses: Motion (22 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: It was a great job.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Jun 2022)
Martin Conway: I wholeheartedly agree with Senator Fitzpatrick on what she said about public representatives objecting to housing. I can never understand such objections because ultimately the planners are supposed to be the professionals who can adjudicate on whether something is appropriate. The days of public representatives making such submissions should be well and truly over given the crisis we are...
