Éamon Ó Cuív: It is lying.

Éamon Ó Cuív: I can.

An Bille um an gCeathrú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht (Uimh. 3) 2014: An Dara Céim [Comhaltaí Príobháideacha] - Thirty-fourth Amendment of the Constitution (No. 3) Bill 2014: Second Stage [Private Members] (18 Nov 2014)

Éamon Ó Cuív: It tells total untruths.

Éamon Ó Cuív: Is bealach eile le bréag a rá.

Éamon Ó Cuív: Tá sé breagach. The Government was going to sell it off. Sinn Féin was right to have this debate tonight. The debate on water proposals should have taken place over the past week. There is no point in the Government's coming to the House tomorrow, putting a proposal and stating that we can debate it all we like but not as much as a full stop will be changed. That is a...

Éamon Ó Cuív: It will be interesting to see what the next idea on privatisation will be. The Government should put its money where its mouth is. If it does not do so, we will have to cement a provision in the Constitution, although it might be difficult enough to find the proper wording. It can be done none the less. We should agree tonight to support the thrust of the Sinn Féin Bill, as Second...

Éamon Ó Cuív: No; I am referring to publicly owned water services. That is why I stated that finding the wording could be difficult. I would argue with the wording of the proposed amendment but not the principle. We all know the principle, and if we could agree on it we could find a suitable way of wording the amendment. The challenge has been left to the Minister. Tomorrow the Government will do a...

Éamon Ó Cuív: I was listening to the Minister of State express his outrage about what had happened at the weekend. I agree that it was outrageous, but sometimes it is important for the Government to look at the mote in its eye. When members of the Government were in opposition, I remember the total character assassination, day in and day out, of the Government at the time. They impugned our motives to...

Éamon Ó Cuív: That was a mistake. The difference between us and the current Government is that we learned from our mistakes.

Other Questions: Irish Prison Service (18 Nov 2014)

Éamon Ó Cuív: Is the Minister telling me that even though all the facts of the case are potentially known to her and the director, no question will be raised by her in respect of an investigation into the breaking of the law unless I or the prisoner involved make a complaint to An Garda Síochána, and no legal action will be taken unless that complaint is made?

Other Questions: Irish Prison Service (18 Nov 2014)

Éamon Ó Cuív: I visited Limerick Prison on 30 October. On 31 October I was contacted by a reporter who seemed to have very detailed information about that visit that could only have come from within the Irish Prison Service. I understand that such leaking is not an uncommon occurrence. What will the Minister do to stop this activity, which is totally in breach of regulations?

Other Questions: Irish Prison Service (18 Nov 2014)

Éamon Ó Cuív: I thank the Minister not only for her answer but for the comprehensive way in which she has dealt with the question. I have never hidden this issue. In fact, I and a number of colleagues spent the day in Maghaberry Prison yesterday and were there for a number of hours. Therefore, it is not the fact that I was in the prison that concerns me, but the fact that a prisoner's private,...
