Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed) - Priority Questions: Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (8 May 2018)

Pat Casey: I will be taking questions on his behalf today because he is away.

Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed) - Priority Questions: Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (8 May 2018)

Pat Casey: Fine Gael scrapped the affordable housing scheme in 2012. The current Government and its predecessor have not delivered an affordable home since coming into power almost seven years ago. The current Government introduced a new affordable housing scheme in January 2018. An integral part of that scheme to deliver affordable homes is the local infrastructure housing activation fund, LIHAF....

Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed) - Priority Questions: Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (8 May 2018)

Pat Casey: I thank the Minister. He did not answer the question on how many houses have been delivered to date so I assume the answer is nil. I can understand the blockage in the system is because of the capital nature of the project. With regard to affordability, sums of over €300,000 are regarded as affordable in Dún Laoghaire. It is not really affordable to the average person. Can...

Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed) - Priority Questions: Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (8 May 2018)

Pat Casey: I thank the Minister. Could he give us an update on LIHAF 2 and the projects that did not succeed under LIHAF 1? Will he state the affordable house prices he has proposed under all the schemes? It is very hard to understand the exact cost from the spreadsheet. As the Minister says, there is percentage discount and, equally, a fixed price in regard to affordability.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Response to National Emergencies: Irish Water (25 Apr 2018)

Pat Casey: I thank Mr. Grant for his presentation. I acknowledge the openness with which he provides us information whenever we meet. Every event seems to improve the process, especially communication with the community and us as public representatives. Mr. Grant referred to standby tankers and generators. Regarding the latter, does he have a target number of locations where permanent generators...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Response to National Emergencies: Irish Water (25 Apr 2018)

Pat Casey: Is Irish Water physically inspecting every connection?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Water Supply Project: Discussion (25 Apr 2018)

Pat Casey: We can all get lost in figures relating to leakage and so on. I acknowledge the work Ms Kennedy has done on this project, which is a personal crusade she has taken on, and the volume of information she has presented to us. Anything I say will not be critical of what she has presented. Water quality, supply and leakage have been referred to in detail but, at the end of the day, if we fix...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Housing for Older People: Discussion (Resumed) (24 Apr 2018)

Pat Casey: I will be as brief as possible. I have been waiting for two hours. The Senator should not feel too bad.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Housing for Older People: Discussion (Resumed) (24 Apr 2018)

Pat Casey: I will try not to go over the same questions that have been asked. I look forward to reading the long-term policy report that is due out in the summer. Realistically, in the intervening period all we have for older people is the housing adaptation grant or some funding from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, SEAI. Does the €66 million come from the Department or from...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Issues Impacting Apartments and Multi-Unit Developments (19 Apr 2018)

Pat Casey: I thank Mr. Rouse and Mr. Maher for coming in today. It has taken us a bit longer to bring them before the committee, but as all the members have pointed out, this is a ticking time bomb and is something we need to keep on the agenda and keep referring back to. Again, I thank the witnesses for attending and engaging with the committee. I propose that we suspend for a few moments to allow...
