- Seanad: Alcohol Consumption: Statements (17 Oct 2012)
Marie Moloney: I welcome the Minister of State to the House and am glad to see him take up the position vacated by Deputy Shortall. We in this country can guarantee that this issue will always be a topic of conversation here. People talk about the weather, they talk about football and they talk about how much they had to drink at the weekend or the night before. We are currently campaigning for a "Yes"...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection: Community Employment Scheme: Discussion with SIPTU (17 Oct 2012)
Marie Moloney: It is a question of how many schemes actually closed down.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection: Community Employment Scheme: Discussion with SIPTU (17 Oct 2012)
Marie Moloney: I thank the witnesses for the presentation. Public representatives are kept aware of this issue every day of the week. I missed the presentation by the officials of the Department. They may have addressed the issue I raise. Last year, there was uproar when the cuts were announced. It was feared that community employment schemes would close. How many, if any, schemes closed when the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection: Minimising Unemployment: Discussion with Department of Social Protection (17 Oct 2012)
Marie Moloney: I thank the Chair and apologise for being late; I was attending the launch of our campaign on the children's referendum. I will not go over the community employment scheme as I know my colleagues have stressed its importance and value to local communities and particularly the value of the rural social scheme to rural communities. However, I wish to highlight its value to people with...
- Seanad: Primary Care Centres: Motion (10 Oct 2012)
Marie Moloney: Like other Senators I welcome the Minister of State, Deputy White, to the Chamber. I am sure when he was sitting here he did not think he would be sitting where he is now. Well done and congratulations. There is no better man to take over the portfolio. I will keep my comments brief because I know we have time constraints. People have spoken about empty buildings throughout the country...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection: Managing Back to School Costs: Discussion (10 Oct 2012)
Marie Moloney: I was referring to it in a much broader sense. As our guests will be aware, there are even more issues that arise in respect of, for example, parents who transport children by car or whatever.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection: Managing Back to School Costs: Discussion (10 Oct 2012)
Marie Moloney: I thank the witnesses for coming here today. I know they have put great deal of work into their presentations. They want to put their message across. However, all the delegates are singing from the same hymn sheet as they have all the same ideas and have collaborated on suggestions. I found it very interesting that Fr. O'Connell is the only person who has mentioned e-books. I would be a...
- Seanad: Radical Seanad Reform Through Legislative Change: Statements (3 Oct 2012)
Marie Moloney: I must ask the Senator to conclude.

Marie Moloney: Is that agreed? Agreed.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection: Entitlements for Self-Employed: Discussion with Self-Employed Alliance Dundalk (3 Oct 2012)
Marie Moloney: This is more of an observation than a question. This morning I asked about an optional payment and I am disappointed that the group is not agreeable to this; it seems it is all or nothing. The bigger self-employed businesses, which are making some money, may fight such a process because they may not want to pay extra. I was hoping people could opt for a payment and if they fell on hard...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Social Protection: Entitlements for Self-Employed: Discussion with Self-Employed Alliance Dundalk (3 Oct 2012)
Marie Moloney: The class S stamp would get Mr. Matthews a pension anyway.

Marie Moloney: That 3% provides many benefits. The departmental officials were adamant that the benefits were good, in that they included an old age pension, a survivor's contributory pension, the bereavement grant and maternity benefit. We are trying to get the self-employed into the bracket for other benefits, for example, carer's, jobseeker's and illness. The extra payments would go towards them.
