- Seanad: Criminal Law (Human Trafficking) (Amendment) Bill 2013: Second Stage (24 Apr 2013)
Caít Keane: I welcome the Minister of State and am delighted to be present for this debate. I have been waiting for this day. I will outline my interest, in that I am a member of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly, BIPA, which is working on a report on trafficking. I welcome and support the Bill. As the Minister of State has outlined its provisions, I will not stick to it, as I only have six...
- Seanad: Order of Business (17 Apr 2013)
Caít Keane: The EU report deals with human trafficking in every member state. The British-Irish Parliamentary Association is compiling a report on the issue and most EU member states have parliamentary groups to deal with it. This report shows that Ireland is lacking in its rules and regulations. I ask the Leader if we could consider setting up an all-party group on human trafficking because this...

Caít Keane: I join the other Senators who extended their sympathy to the families of the victims in the Boston marathon bombings. I would also like to mention the death of Margaret Thatcher who was buried today. Love her or loathe her, she was a formidable lady in politics. I am a member of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly and want to mention her name as she will be remembered.
- Seanad: Order of Business (17 Apr 2013)
Caít Keane: I said love her or loathe her; I am not saying anything about the lady herself. I said she was a woman who would go down in political history. - Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Climate Change: Discussion (17 Apr 2013)
Caít Keane: We all want to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but what is the best way to do so? We may be able to meet our targets but other measures must also be considered. Targets are probably a good idea but I will have to consider them further. I want to see the impact of targets. I do not want them to put the country's farmers out of business. It is bad enough as it is.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Climate Change: Discussion (17 Apr 2013)
Caít Keane: I wholeheartedly welcome our guests. This is probably one of the most important discussions any country can and will have because we are all bound by this. As Sorley McCaughey said, quoting Baden Powell, if we can leave this world a little better than it was when we came into it, that should be our aim. I hope, as politicians, we have that aim too. All politicians have it at heart. They...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Property Insurance: Discussion (Resumed) (16 Apr 2013)
Caít Keane: Mr. Downey mentioned that agreed rates are forced on loss adjusters, particularly because of the black market situation. I would like him to make a recommendation to the joint committee regarding something we could do to flush out the black market. When builders submit contracts to public bodies, they must have C2 and VAT registration. Could it be made compulsory for people who apply to do...
