- Seanad: Order of Business (28 Feb 2012)
Pat O'Neill: I welcome the decision by the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste to have a referendum. I am delighted two members of the Fianna Fáil group welcomed it, nearly guaranteeing support. I was very worried, having listened to Senator Daly for the last two sitting days in regard to the need for a referendum and the fact that-----
- Seanad: Order of Business (28 Feb 2012)
Pat O'Neill: That is up to him. This is a pro-Europe referendum, which I feel all parties must support. I ask the Leader that, at the earliest convenience, we have a debate in this House on the referendum. Although I am not suggesting the other House would not do so, this House can give the matter proper debate. We saw how the last two referenda, on the 29th and 30th amendments, got lost among the...

Food is the most important thing in the world. We cannot live without bread and water. Many of the points I...
- Seanad: Food Wastage: Motion (15 Feb 2012)
Pat O'Neill: I am not mean; I am practical. Ham can be perfectly good after the date shown. The EU school milk scheme was mentioned and it should be encouraged. I also welcome the fruit scheme in schools and the food dude. It is a great measure. Many speakers mentioned obesity and fruit is the healthiest thing one can eat. We must import the majority of our fruit but it is still important to include...

Pat O'Neill: Four Senators have referred to jobs. Before I ask the Leader about another issue, I welcome the announcement today that HCL, a software support company, will provide 200 new jobs in Kilkenny. This is great news and shows the need for a technological university in the south east. It proves that if we have well-educated young people in an area, we will get jobs, particularly in the IT...
