Réada Cronin: Yes. Perhaps Mr. Finlay could send them to the committee. Also, does the IAE have examples of the common good being mentioned in legislation in other European countries?

Committee on Infrastructure and National Development Plan Delivery: The Role of Engineering in Delivering High-Quality Infrastructure: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Réada Cronin: We need four elective hospitals as well. There was something else Mr. Leahy mentioned but I cannot remember. I will email him.

Committee on Infrastructure and National Development Plan Delivery: The Role of Engineering in Delivering High-Quality Infrastructure: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Réada Cronin: There was one thing. I just cannot find it now.

Committee on Infrastructure and National Development Plan Delivery: The Role of Engineering in Delivering High-Quality Infrastructure: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Réada Cronin: I remember my question. It was around how design stage was critical for value for money. We think about that as being for architects rather than engineers. Are the witnesses saying that if there was more input from engineers at, say, the design stage of the children's hospital, there could have been money saved?

Réada Cronin: We are lower.

Committee on Infrastructure and National Development Plan Delivery: The Role of Engineering in Delivering High-Quality Infrastructure: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Réada Cronin: The design phase is basically looking around corners and seeing what things could go wrong.

Environment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2025: Second Stage (30 Sep 2025)

Réada Cronin: Decades of inaction, mismanagement and a lack of ambition from successive Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael governments have caused Ireland's critical infrastructural deficits to develop into a full-blown crisis across multiple sectors. An Teachta Daly referred to the motion that Sinn Féin brought forward last week and the snail's pace at which the Government has rolled out the transition...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Fish Kill in the River Blackwater: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)

Réada Cronin: What about the impact from allowing 72 hours to elapse before testing the samples?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Fish Kill in the River Blackwater: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)

Réada Cronin: Why did the Marine Institute find out about the fish kill before the EPA? The Marine Institute found out about the fish kill on the 11th and the EPA claims it found out on the 12th. My apologies for being late but I was contributing to a debate on an environmental Bill in the Dáil. Dr. Ryan said that the EPA did not find out until the 12th but Mr. Long said that the EPA was told on...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Fish Kill in the River Blackwater: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)

Réada Cronin: I asked because I wondered why there was confusion around that. The results of the EPA's investigation are different from those of the Marine Institute. Does the EPA use different metrics used? Please explain why different conclusions were reached.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Fish Kill in the River Blackwater: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)

Réada Cronin: The EPA had a different reply.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Fish Kill in the River Blackwater: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)

Réada Cronin: My next questions are for Inland Fisheries Ireland. Mr. Fox mentioned legislative shortcomings. Is it only from this circumstance that the IFI has liaised with the Minister of State about increasing its enforcement powers?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Fish Kill in the River Blackwater: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)

Réada Cronin: That is good. What preventative measures can the Government take to address the frequency of fish kills in Ireland? Since I was elected five and a half years ago, there have been several fish kills in my constituency, in north Kildare, in the River Rye. The distress that fish kills cause to local fishermen is horrendous and a fish kill has an impact on income as well. Earlier today in...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Fish Kill in the River Blackwater: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)

Réada Cronin: I have one quick question for Cork County Council. How often does the council collect water samples from the Blackwater? Does it happen on a regular basis or was it just done as a result of this fish kill?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Fish Kill in the River Blackwater: Discussion (30 Sep 2025)

Réada Cronin: I want to follow on from Teachta Kenny's question about the Marine Institute. I wondered why it took three days to begin processing the samples and it was because the Marine Institute was busy with something else. Could that work have been delegated to Inland Fisheries Ireland? Also, what about the impact of allowing 72 hours to elapse before testing the samples?
