- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Lending to Small Business: Discussion (13 Nov 2012)
Mary White: I was not here because I had to go to the Seanad Chamber. I also asked about transparency in accounting for the €3.5 billion. Why can we not know the breakdown of what is included?

Mary White: The culture.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Lending to Small Business: Discussion (13 Nov 2012)
Mary White: I welcome the delegation and have known Mr. Pat Farrell for some years. He has done a very good PR job for the banks and was faultless in his presentation showing everything is perfect with them. I am delighted to meet Mr. John Trethowan in person. He was the fair-haired boy for a while when he agreed with the banks. When he disagreed with them, he became a bête noire. I heard one...
- Seanad: Youth Unemployment and Public Policy: Address by Professor Christopher Pissarides (Resumed) (8 Nov 2012)
Mary White: I welcome Professor Pissarides. It is an honour to be in the presence of a Nobel laureate for the first time in my life. I am particularly emotionally moved because the prize in question was awarded for economics. Professor Pissarides is very welcome. I represent Fianna Fáil, which is the major party in opposition, on the Joint Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation of this...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Workplace Relations Service: Discussion with Employment Appeals Tribunal (6 Nov 2012)
Mary White: I thank Mr. Dowling and his colleagues. It was most interesting to listen to them. I thank them for the contribution they have made to employees and employers in Ireland over the years but it is time to innovate, improve and simplify the system for all sides. We should have one body dealing with initial complaints instead of numerous bodies. I disagree with the important point of time...
- Seanad: National Dementia Strategy: Motion (24 Oct 2012)
Mary White: I welcome the Minister of State and congratulate him. It was very moving listening to Senators O'Keeffe, Landy and Kelly speaking about this frightful disease. I fought to maintain the public nursing home in Crooksling, which is close to Tallaght. We got a reprieve from the Minister, Deputy Reilly, but it was my first experience of seeing 80 patients, who suffer from Alzheimer's, in one...

Mary White: That is terrible.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Micro-Enterprise and Small Business Unit: Discussion with EI, ISME and SFA (23 Oct 2012)
Mary White: It is disgraceful and does not augur well.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Micro-Enterprise and Small Business Unit: Discussion with EI, ISME and SFA (23 Oct 2012)
Mary White: I also second that proposal.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Micro-Enterprise and Small Business Unit: Discussion with EI, ISME and SFA (23 Oct 2012)

Mary White: I hate that word "displacement".
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Micro-Enterprise and Small Business Unit: Discussion with EI, ISME and SFA (23 Oct 2012)
Mary White: I agree with Mr. Hayes on that issue.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Micro-Enterprise and Small Business Unit: Discussion with EI, ISME and SFA (23 Oct 2012)
Mary White: Mr. Hayes says he will not support another if there are ten in the town. Some people can go overboard about displacement. It is an ideological issue. If there is one other company, they are told they cannot go there whereas competition is the spice of life.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Micro-Enterprise and Small Business Unit: Discussion with EI, ISME and SFA (23 Oct 2012)
Mary White: That is why I said it to Mr. Hayes. I was amazed at the numbers they were talking about.

Mary White: It started as a small company.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Micro-Enterprise and Small Business Unit: Discussion with EI, ISME and SFA (23 Oct 2012)
Mary White: I welcome the witnesses. I thank Mr. Hayes for his very comprehensive statement. There is no doubt that Enterprise Ireland has been extraordinarily successful. Between direct and indirect employment, some 300,000 people are employed in companies supported by Enterprise Ireland. That speaks for itself. I had the honour to be on the evaluation committee of the very first Dublin City...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Micro-Enterprise and Small Business Unit: Discussion with EI, ISME and SFA (23 Oct 2012)
Mary White: I will ask questions that will spell out the reasons I query it. Under the current arrangement, Enterprise Ireland comes under the remit of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and the local authorities are under the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government. I have a major issue with that. Most of the current enterprise boards have been very successful,...
