Other Questions: Services for People with Disabilities (17 Jun 2015)

Mattie McGrath: The Minister confirmed to me last October that despite commitments of 100% wheelchair accessibility for the Bus Éireann public service obligation, or PSO, coach fleet by 2015, the proportion will reach a mere 60% by the end of 2015 from a current level of 56%. At that rate of going, it will take up to ten years to meet the commitment.

Other Questions: Services for People with Disabilities (17 Jun 2015)

Mattie McGrath: Given that the plan was published in 2006, reviewed in 2008 and remains a plan, it is not acceptable that by the end of the 2015 deadline, less than 60% of the fleet will be accessible. I asked this question of the Minister having become aware that there is no daily bus service from Clonmel designed to accommodate wheelchair users. According to Bus Éireann's own information, its...

Other Questions: Services for People with Disabilities (17 Jun 2015)

Mattie McGrath: It is not all about Dublin where the Minister's constituency is located. Money has been pumped into Dublin and the fleets in Dublin, Galway, Waterford and Sligo have been made 100% accessible. I am talking about Tipperary, which I represent in case the Minister does not know. This is a scenario that cannot be allowed. The Minister can talk about his new bus shelters, but when the bus...

Urban Regeneration and Housing Bill 2015: Second Stage (Resumed) (16 Jun 2015)

Mattie McGrath: I am sorry. Of course, he is the Minister. They might as well go out to Mount Melleray and pray to a statue out there because there is no review. Building activity has ceased in every county because of this phoney promise made by a phoney Minister. He is a man who got to know everything in a very short time. He should have crawled before he walked and walked before he ran, but he came in...

Urban Regeneration and Housing Bill 2015: Second Stage (Resumed) (16 Jun 2015)

Mattie McGrath: If the Minister of State told me the sun was shining I would go out to see if it was raining. l would not have to go out because I would be wet before I came in. No one believes him. He should not fall into the same old trick as the Minister, Deputy Kelly, because that is not like him or his family before him. He should not fall into that old trick of making announcements that no one believes.

Urban Regeneration and Housing Bill 2015: Second Stage (Resumed) (16 Jun 2015)

Mattie McGrath: When? The election is coming so will it be announced the week before that? Will they spell it out to the people? Unless there is maize in the field in which they are seeking votes, they will be found out because they cannot hide and the long grass will not be long enough to hide them.

Urban Regeneration and Housing Bill 2015: Second Stage (Resumed) (16 Jun 2015)

Mattie McGrath: I welcome the opportunity to speak on this Bill, although I would prefer to be addressing the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Deputy Alan Kelly, rather than the Minister of State, Deputy Coffey, on the crisis in housing. We are only tinkering at the edges of the crisis with this Bill, which we are ramming through at this hour of the night. It is like a fellow...
