- Order of Business. (8 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: This House deals with legislation. Will the Taoiseach investigate the situation whereby the Constitution does not allow people to be treated equally? People have been waiting eight years for urology services in Galway. We need a urology service as 1,000 people are waiting.

Jerry Cowley: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: why Mayo patients must still wait for up to eight years for urgent urology hospital services in Galway and why an 80-year old man who, clinically, has cancer of the prostate has already been waiting for 16 months to see the consultant urologist in Galway for urgent treatment; why this situation...

- Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31. (7 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to address a matter of major national and local importance, namely, why the people of the Achill, Mulraney and Ballycroy areas must wait an unacceptably long time for emergency ambulance services due to the failure of the Government to follow basic standards of having an ambulance based within 20 miles of any population.
- Forensic Testing. (2 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: The Garda SÃochána is capable of organising anything with DNA samples. Sinéad McDaid was killed on the side of the road on 12 June 2001. Sergeant Mick Murray, who was totally discredited at the Morris tribunal, exhibited a photograph as evidence in the High Court showing four signs on the road, but Garda Moran made a statement to the effect that there was only one.
- Forensic Testing. (2 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: Will the Minister examine that case and investigate its irregularities?
- Road Traffic Offences. (2 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: I received an answer from the Minister on Sinéad McDaid, which stated that there was no investigation because the matter was not considered serious but this lady was taken moribund from the site of the accident.
- Road Traffic Offences. (2 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: There are serious inconsistencies. The Garda statement said there was one sign on each side of the road, yet the photograph showed four the next morning.
- Adjournment Debate. (2 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: Something very wrong was accepted by the court and I hope the Minister will investigate the case.
- Adjournment Debate. (2 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: I know the Dáil has adjourned but I received a reply today which stated that the scene was not preserved because the accident was not considered serious. The matter cries out for some sort of investigation with reference to Garda competence and I ask the Minister to examine the case.

- Competition (Amendment) Bill 2005 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed). (2 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: This Bill is very much a mixed bag and, like the curate's egg, good in parts. Nobody really knows what will happen. I have read a significant number of submissions were made on whether the groceries order should be abolished and know the major number of submissions to the Minister came from small shopkeepers. The consumers' champion, Eddie Hobbs, appeared to lead the charge on behalf of...
- Competition (Amendment) Bill 2005 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed). (2 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: Change is necessary. The market will bring it about by itself but the Government has great power to do so and I hope it will. Having brought forward the Bill, it should consider the position of businesses which are struggling to survive in rural areas, particularly the west. Unfortunately, in a place such as Achill or Belmullet, business costs and expenses are similar to elsewhere and similar...
- Competition (Amendment) Bill 2005 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed). (2 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: It is a colossal underspend and a compelling reason for the Government to invest â¬29 million in Ireland West Airport Knock. Funding is needed in the next three years for an extension of the passenger terminal and the installation of category 2 navigation status for the airport, which is Ireland's fourth international airport, with the third longest runway. During a recent celebration of the...
- Competition (Amendment) Bill 2005 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed). (2 Feb 2006)
Jerry Cowley: Businesses must be properly supported. It is not enough to abolish the groceries order. The Government must put its money where its mouth is and do something to support businesses. It can do so by supporting facilities such as Knock Airport, which is a major catalyst for the area.
