Earlier, when I was following the committee online, I listened with interest. He stated that the saving from windfall corporation tax receipts contributes to approximately 16 percentage points of the overall decline of net debt. Will Professor McMahon elaborate on how...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Fiscal Assessment Report: Irish Fiscal Advisory Council (22 Jun 2023)

Sorca Clarke: I apologise, but can we go back to how the council defines excess corporation tax. What measures does it use? I appreciate the council is examining global activity and so on, but what is its definition of "excess"?

Sorca Clarke: Not to add to Dr. Casey's burden, but there is another issue I want clarification on. The council is examining a period in history and comparing it with today. A large number of multinationals have been here for a considerable period. How long does an entity have to operate in Ireland before it becomes what might be called an established income generator?

Education Costs: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (20 Jun 2023)

Sorca Clarke: I echo what Deputy O'Reilly said about the need to actually support this motion. Education is the last great equaliser of society. While it is no load to bear, the opportunities it presents, particularly to those who were born into disadvantage, cannot be overestimated. I will briefly touch on some comments made by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and...

Education Costs: Motion [Private Members] (20 Jun 2023)

Sorca Clarke: I move: That Dáil Éireann: notes that: — primary and post primary education in this State is intended to be "free" under the Constitution and in legislation, but the reality is profoundly different; — the cost-of-living crisis continues to put parents and students under significant financial pressure; — according to the most recent Irish League of Credit...

Sorca Clarke: I thank the witnesses for giving their time so freely, which is much appreciated. It is important that we hear different views on this issue. Nobody has a consensus on...
