- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: Of course we should talk about it. I presume this is a matter that can be reviewed pretty quickly if there is different engagement in regard to the parameters applied by the drug company.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: Is it that it is not a cost issue but more a question of clinical benefit?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: The Minister has twice confirmed to me in writing that there will be no cuts in services. I would like to make a point about the non-critical transport services.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: Yes. I see a significant role for such vehicles. It was outlined that they would be in place, but they are basically non-existent in the mid-west, for example. They are not available when they are needed. I encourage those who are taking part in conversations as part of the review to consider the role of those vehicles. The Chair knows about the position in the mid-west, with which we...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: I think it is critical. I thank Mr. O'Brien for his answers.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: I just want to know whether they are inter-operable.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: I am greatly interested in the public services card because I was involved in the development of the Leap card. I was absolutely shocked to hear that we are creating a new health number rather than using the PPS number. I still think it is wrong. In fact, it is crazy. Can the public services card be used to access all the health information of someone on the side of the road?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: If I am unconscious on the side of the road after an accident, will a paramedic who has taken out my wallet and found my public services card because he needs to find out everything about me be able to go into the health system and pull out all the information he needs in relation to me?

Alan Kelly: Okay.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (22 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: I understand that. I thank Mr. Breslin.
- Topical Issue Debate: Greyhound Industry (21 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: I thank the Minister of State for his reply. He is one of the most honourable people in here, but the reply supplied by his Department is the same garbage that departmental officials supplied to me, Deputy Burke and others at last week's Committee of Public Accounts meeting. It does not get to the nub of the issue. It is washing its hands of it. It is letting down the owners, breeders,...
- Topical Issue Debate: Greyhound Industry (21 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: The decision last week to sell Harold's Cross racecourse was the last straw for many. The board of Harold's Cross were not consulted. Those who have contributed to the industry for generations are sick and tired of the way the Irish Greyhound Board is running this industry. Frankly speaking, it is running it into the toilet. It is a basket case at this stage. The level of debt is...
- Topical Issue Debate: Greyhound Industry (21 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: Running away, maybe.
- Topical Issue Debate: Greyhound Industry (21 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: I appreciate that.

Alan Kelly: 367. To ask the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the tender price for the Cork events centre submitted by a company (details supplied); if €20 million of public money has been sanctioned for the project; if the Government is now considering a request for a further €10 million; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8168/17]
- Written Answers — Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Fish Farming (21 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: 520. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the growing international concern regarding the increasing use of hydrogen peroxide in the treatment of sea lice and amoebic gill disease in salmon farms; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8123/17]

- Establishment of a Tribunal of Inquiry: Motion (16 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: I also welcome the terms of reference which have been agreed and announced today. It has been a long week since my colleague, Deputy Howlin, made his statement in the Dáil. Many criticised him but that triggered the events which brought us to where we are now. My colleague acknowledged the work of everyone in the House and certain journalists but we would not be where we are today if...
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (16 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: I agree and this is something that we should come back and spend a bit of time on. It is obviously quite topical. Outside of being just topical, there has to be some learning from the legacy of how this was costed. What the Deputy has outlined is accurate. Not only that, but the figures have changed, not just in the totality but also individually. For instance, the €200 million...
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (16 Feb 2017)
Alan Kelly: That is the conundrum. I accept what the Comptroller and Auditor General said about decision-making being based on a framework which, in turn, is based on figures which can change subsequently. That has to be looked at.
