Denis Naughten: I know that. I will not repeat the questions that have been asked. - Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Health Insurance Levy: Discussion (21 Feb 2013)
Denis Naughten: I ask for answers to the three questions I asked earlier. I asked Mr. O'Dwyer about risk equalisation. He states it is 55% effective, but the Department of Health states it is up to 80% effective. I asked about the €28 million liability for subsidised lifetime health insurance for staff and their spouses and children. I refer to the point made by Mr. Clancy in his initial...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Health Insurance Levy: Discussion (21 Feb 2013)
Denis Naughten: I thank the witnesses who are appearing before the committee. We have a serious problem within the health insurance industry where 200 people per day are giving up on their health insurance. If the new levy goes ahead, as currently structured, far more families will leave the health insurance system. Most of my questions are for Mr. John O'Dwyer but I have some for the other insurers also.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Health Insurance Levy: Discussion (21 Feb 2013)

Why is there a difference between his interpretation and that of the Department? Who is right? That has a significant impact on the overall cost of health insurance for families....

Denis Naughten: The health spending on its own seems small.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals (21 Feb 2013)
Denis Naughten: I have two or three questions. In his opening presentation Mr. Fitzgerald said that based on EU research, the impact of tobacco consumption on the health budget is 3%. That seems extremely small based on what we have been told anecdotally, that tobacco consumption has a huge impact on the health budget. Could Mr. Fitzgerald please clarify that point? A number of years ago we banned packs...

- Other Questions: Undocumented Irish in the USA (20 Feb 2013)
Denis Naughten: There is a nuance between what has been presented by President Obama and by the bipartisan approach of the US Senators. President Obama is talking about a two-strand approach, dealing with border security and comprehensive immigration reform in tandem with each other. The Senators are talking about securing the borders first and then looking at a path to citizenship. If the second...
