Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Departmental Funding (17 Feb 2022)

Richard O'Donoghue: I thank the Minister of State. I do not think community fields come under the sports capital grant scheme. I stand to be corrected. I welcome the funding provided in the areas referred to by the Minister of State, including the constructions of a footpath at Feenagh soccer club. However, in smaller communities, such as Granagh-Ballingarry, there are soccer and GAA fields that are being...

Richard O'Donoghue: 237. To ask the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth if his attention has been drawn to the slow pace of progress in achieving disability rights; if he will ensure that Ireland honours its commitments under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, if his attention has been further drawn to the fact that Ireland has one of the...

Committee on Public Petitions: Annual Reports of the Press Council of Ireland and Office of the Press Ombudsman: Press Ombudsman (17 Feb 2022)

Richard O'Donoghue: I thank Mr. Feeney for that comment. He covered RTÉ's position, but in the Dáil there are 23 Independents across the board at present. It is a fairly big Opposition when you consider the Rural Independent Group, the Regional Group Independents and the Independent Group. That is 23 elected representatives. We might look at that. One thing I took from Mr. Feeney's response - he...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (17 Feb 2022)

Richard O'Donoghue: Our guests are very welcome, again. My first point concerns conservation officers. We only have one in Limerick. That is Tom Cassidy. We also have Sarah McCutcheon. They are side by side. We have only half a clerical staff equivalent to assist them. How are we going to protect our heritage structures and national monuments if we only have one conservation officer dealing with certain...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (17 Feb 2022)

Richard O'Donoghue: I have one more question.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (17 Feb 2022)

Richard O'Donoghue: We have seen how if Government or Departments want to get land, they can get it through a CPO. Is it possible for CPOs to be used to access national monuments and graveyards not owned by the Department? CPOs can be used for strategic projects so why can it not be done for our natural heritage and monuments? Can that be looked into?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (17 Feb 2022)

Richard O'Donoghue: Yes, but in respect of many of the sites about which we are talking, if open dialogue has failed, at least with a CPO, the person who is losing the land would get money for what he or she is selling and the CPO would mean that there would be a balance. An awful lot of landholders are afraid of insurance if they mention that there is a national monument on their land to which the public wants...

Committee on Public Petitions: Annual Reports of the Press Council of Ireland and Office of the Press Ombudsman: Press Ombudsman (17 Feb 2022)

Richard O'Donoghue: I welcome the provisions in the Bill we saw yesterday relating to whistleblowers. I use social media. It is my way of getting my message out as an Independent Deputy. I work within the criteria given to me. In respect of television appearances and the amount of time given to Government Deputies on the national broadcaster compared to Independent Deputies, it involves money generated for...

Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second Stage (Resumed) (16 Feb 2022)

Richard O'Donoghue: I welcome the Bill. I have a question for the Minister and would like a reply in writing if he does not mind. It relates to HSE employees past and present. I am very disturbed that within the HSE there is a Q-pulse system where staff can make complaints regarding wrongful practice. How many Q-pulse cases have not been acted on and closed out in the HSE? How many Q-pulse submissions have...

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (16 Feb 2022)

Richard O'Donoghue: The Government blames oil prices for the energy crisis. The facts do not support the Government's argument that the hike in the price of the barrel of oil is the main cause of skyrocketing petrol, diesel and home-heating costs. This argument is wrong and misleading and I will explain why. In 2008, the cost of a barrel of oil was $162, the cost of a litre of petrol was €1.30 and a...

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (16 Feb 2022)

Richard O'Donoghue: It is about the cost of a barrel of oil.
