- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: HIQA Investigation into Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise: Health Information and Quality Authority (13 May 2015)
Jerry Buttimer: On the point regarding the State Claims Agency, the committee has concluded a report on medical indemnity. One of proposals in that report relates to the HSE's policy around open disclosure. Deputy Fleming has made a good point. When will we see action and accountability in regard to all of this? If this is not about being patient-centred, and if "Prime Time" had not produced this...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: HIQA Investigation into Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise: Health Information and Quality Authority (13 May 2015)
Jerry Buttimer: Mr. Quinn has said it is not within HIQA's remit to name individuals. Is that why we do not have names in the report? Members have mentioned that it is like being on the vicious roundabout. It is about ensuring patients, mothers-to-be and families have confidence in the service. I am not looking for a name, but if there is no accountability in the system, how can change be implemented to...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: HIQA Investigation into Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise: Health Information and Quality Authority (13 May 2015)
Jerry Buttimer: That is the point. It is very clear in the report, from my own reading of it, that we did know who knew what was going on. If there is no accountability, we are just providing window-dressing and playing along with the system. Arising from the recommendations, would HIQA advise that the HSE and the Department should come before the committee and outline why they have not implemented the...

Jerry Buttimer: I thank the delegates from HIQA, Mr. Quinn, Ms Dunnion and Mr. Whelan, for their co-operation. I thank committee members and other Members of the Oireachtas for their engagement in the discussion. As I stated, our focus must be on the parents, families and children whose experience of the health service was very negative. It is important that we work collectively to resolve these issues to...
