- Seanad: Micro-plastic and Micro-bead Pollution Prevention Bill 2016: Second Stage (23 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: There certainly are dark forces operating in the background to this Bill. I recognise the goodwill of the Minister, Deputy Coveney, but the-----
- Seanad: Micro-plastic and Micro-bead Pollution Prevention Bill 2016: Second Stage (23 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: I never mentioned the Leader. I accept his good offices.
- Seanad: Micro-plastic and Micro-bead Pollution Prevention Bill 2016: Second Stage (23 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: The Galway tent has brought the developers back into Fine Gael's bed.
- Seanad: Micro-plastic and Micro-bead Pollution Prevention Bill 2016: Second Stage (23 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: I thank Senator O'Sullivan for the work she has done on this Bill and in bringing it before the House. Unfortunately the Leader has left the House after criticising other Senators for doing the same thing. With regard to the environment, we had our own problems and the Green Party had battles with Fianna Fáil on climate change and climate change legislation in getting it onto the...
- Seanad: Micro-plastic and Micro-bead Pollution Prevention Bill 2016: Second Stage (23 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: It does not matter which party gets the honour of putting this legislation through. We need, for the sake of our children to move on quickly and let us get the legislation onto the Statute Book, where other countries can follow. There was joking and laughing earlier in regard to who is in what bed, but I want to see a safe environment for our grandchildren. There is a lot of debate on...
- Seanad: Micro-plastic and Micro-bead Pollution Prevention Bill 2016: Second Stage (23 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: I appeal to Fianna Fáil to let this Bill go forward. If Fianna Fáil does not know what has been going on in the background - there were several remarks on dark forces, etc. - let us forget all that. Let us do the right thing. Let us guarantee and ensure that our children have a future. Let us make a very small step here by moving this on to Committee Stage thereby bringing the...
- Seanad: Order of Business (22 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: I am very disappointed that no representatives of this House have been appointed to the Committee on the Future of Healthcare. I know that many Senators in the House have direct experience that would have added greatly to the development of that strategy. I ask the Leader whether any contact has been made about appointments to the committee deliberating on the findings of the commission on...
- Seanad: Order of Business (22 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: I thought nobody was in communication with the Leader.
- Seanad: Order of Business (17 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: The bed is made.
- Seanad: Order of Business (17 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: I have spoken already with regard to the National Maternity Hospital at Holles Street, its failure to move to the Elm Park site to co-locate with St. Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin and the amount of money - over €150 million - being made available from the Government. There is frustration at this situation. The Health Information and Quality Authority, HIQA, has reported that...
- Seanad: Order of Business (17 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: The Minister answered those points yesterday.
- Seanad: Heritage Bill 2016: Committee Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: The Cathaoirleach said, "Senator Humphreys".
- Seanad: Heritage Bill 2016: Committee Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: The Minister and I joke now and again. In earlier times, we were considered man and wife; we were never seen together.
- Seanad: Heritage Bill 2016: Committee Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: It is a serious point about the Bill. A large number of amendments only appeared on Monday. In fairness to the Bills Office, I understand why there was a delay regarding the groupings. I suggest that the Minister take a deep breath and use this opportunity to consult offline with those Senators who have a deep interest in this matter to try to resolve the many issues that have arisen with...
- Seanad: Heritage Bill 2016: Committee Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: In response to the Minister, I acknowledge it is quite difficult for her to respond to so many issues at the same time. Senator Ó Domhnaill has explained that if his proposal were accepted, it would clarify and eliminate the road safety issue in a very clear manner. I believe there are adequate controls and that the road safety regulations could be improved to manage the roadways. If...
- Seanad: Heritage Bill 2016: Committee Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: I must admit that I always hate following Senator Norris who is always a difficult act to follow. I will respond to a couple of items mentioned earlier. Senator Lombard said cutting hedges on the roadside is always an enormous issue in Cork. It has probably been hotly debated on numerous occasions in the council chamber to such an extent that they made no submission in respect of this.
- Seanad: Heritage Bill 2016: Committee Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: One of the things we are arguing about is the executive. There has been no submission from Cork about it. Senator Lombard neglected to say that many rural councils were seeking better protection for hedgerows. Senator O'Reilly taught in Ringsend College on many occasions. However, I must say that as a teacher, he would not get away with his contribution this evening in Ringsend College.
- Seanad: Heritage Bill 2016: Committee Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: There is a Ringsend upper cut that normally resolves all these things. What is very clear from the debate is that this is not about road safety.
- Seanad: Heritage Bill 2016: Committee Stage (Resumed) (17 Nov 2016)
Kevin Humphreys: If it was about road safety-----
