Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Football Association of Ireland's Facility Investment Vision and Strategy, and Governance Issues: Discussion (13 Dec 2023)

Brendan Griffin: I was around in 2019 and 2020 when much of this stuff was trying to be straightened out. It was a stressful time. One of the things that the people of the country, including those participating in the sport, were told at the time was that there would be reform from the top right down to grassroots level. This committee asked for the details of what reforms had taken place. I do not...

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Football Association of Ireland's Facility Investment Vision and Strategy, and Governance Issues: Discussion (13 Dec 2023)

Brendan Griffin: I am sorry to cut across Mr. McDermott, but time is limited. Would it have been too much for the FAI to provide us with a detailed breakdown of the district leagues and the changes in personnel or otherwise that had taken place since 2020? The FAI has outlined a...

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Football Association of Ireland's Facility Investment Vision and Strategy, and Governance Issues: Discussion (13 Dec 2023)

Brendan Griffin: With those figures, we have to take into account that only 75% of valid clubs were granted funding last time compared with 100% more recently. There was also a Covid budget that did not exist in 2019, so we are not comparing like with like. In terms of the capital ask for the future, is it not at the heart of the matter that the FAI does not know precisely who is asking for what? The FAI...
