- Local Government Bill 2018: Order for Report Stage (13 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: We need to have a proper debate on this.
- Local Government Bill 2018: Order for Report Stage (13 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: On a point of order, my amendment No. 34 has been ruled out of order by the Ceann Comhairle but this amendment was debated on Committee Stage. Why was it ruled out of order when we were able to discuss it on Committee Stage? A vote was also taken on it on that Stage.
- Local Government Bill 2018: Order for Report Stage (13 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: I do not believe that. The Minister of State made it clear that money would be given to the local authorities. The amendment should not have been ruled out of order. We should be allowed to debate it given that we debated it on Committee Stage.
- Local Government Bill 2018: Order for Report Stage (13 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: I seek further clarification. The letter states that it is a cost to the Exchequer but it is not because two chief executives arein situ in Galway who are paid for by the Exchequer. The Bill, if passed, proposes that there will be one chief executive officer. The two chief executive officers are in situ. We seek a proper debate in the House but we are being treated unfairly on this.

- Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Local Government Bill 2018: Committee Stage (Resumed) (6 Dec 2018)

- Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Local Government Bill 2018: Committee Stage (Resumed) (6 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: We have not heard what the funding commitment will be. As the Minister of State is aware, Galway County Council deferred its budget meeting until next Monday to see what the outcome of this discussion would be. We have heard nothing from the Minister of State on funding. We will be going back to Galway this afternoon with nothing to report to those concerned. I am interested in sitting...
- Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Local Government Bill 2018: Committee Stage (Resumed) (6 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: I concur with my colleagues, Deputies Ó Cuív and Connolly. I would have liked to have been able to have come into the Dáil and to this meeting and said that I supported this Bill because it is the future for Galway. It is not, it is ill thought out and it is being rushed. Proper debate and discussion has not taken place. The Minister of State has to listen to the...
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (6 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: The Tánaiste said it will not be built.
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (6 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: I listened with interest to a report on RTÉ's "Morning Ireland" last Wednesday. The report outlined how health administrators and hospitals are asking people to use minor injury units where possible to avoid having to go to busy emergency departments. People attending one such unit in Smithfield in Dublin were glowing in their praise for the speed with which they were being seen and...
- Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (6 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: I asked the Tánaiste to provide a minor injuries unit on the grounds of Merlin Park University Hospital. There are 11 such units throughout the country in major urban cities. University Hospital Galway services the west. At one point the Tánaiste said there were no plans to build a unit, but then he said it would be considered in the report or appraisal that will be carried out....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Financing of Social Housing: Discussion (Resumed) (6 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: As I am not a member of the committee, I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to come in for a few moments. Can the chief executives outline how many people in their areas are in emergency accommodation and what they plan to do to get them out of it and into proper accommodation? Are the numbers decreasing or increasing? Is it still down to the developer, landowner or...

Noel Grealish: 163. To ask the Minister for Health his plans to introduce a reablement home care service in County Galway, similar to the successful programme introduced as a pilot scheme in the Dublin north city area and subsequently established there as a permanent service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. - Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Bill 2018: Report Stage (Resumed) (5 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: I will be very brief. The remains of a foetus which has been the subject of a surgical termination should be disposed of in an appropriate setting. There is legislation in place which requires the appropriate disposal of clinical and biological waste. I am of the view that we should legislate so that the remains of foetuses should also be disposed of appropriately and in a dignified...
- Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Local Government Bill 2018: Committee Stage (5 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: I will be brief. I oppose the Bill as I do not agree with it. As I have said from day one, I think it is wrong that Galway should be lumped in with Cork. I will refer to the plebiscite in a moment. If a merger is to go ahead it should be a separate Bill going through the Dáil on its own merit not to be added in with Cork. I do not agree with what the Minister of State is proposing...
- Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Local Government Bill 2018: Committee Stage (5 Dec 2018)
Noel Grealish: Will there be a plebiscite on both? What happens if it is rejected by the people? What will be the outcome of that?
