- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Cost of Insurance Working Group Update: Discussion (15 Nov 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: What I am saying is very simple. We talk an awful lot about insurance. Ultimately if there is a database which analyses all of this information we do not want to be back here again in a year's time to see it just trundling along. Resources need to be put into it so that it can be up and running pronto.

- Seanad: Commencement Matters (14 Nov 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Deputy Ross, has been called to an emergency Cabinet meeting this morning to discuss Brexit. He had agreed to take my Commencement matter so I have agreed to withdraw it and resubmit it. I thank the Minister of State at the Department of Health, Deputy Catherine Byrne, for her understanding in this matter.
- Seanad: Fossil Fuel Divestment Bill 2016: Second Stage (14 Nov 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: I welcome the Minister of State. To put the matter in context, we are looking to get our fossil fuel carbon emissions down by 2020 and 2030; it is only correct, therefore, that Government and investment policy interlope with that objective. I welcome the Bill in that regard. We obviously want to move toward significant reductions in emissions across a range of areas. I refer to the...

- Seanad Public Consultation Committee: Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: Discussion (13 Nov 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: First, I thank Senator Ó Céidigh for this welcome initiative. I come from the ranks of the self-employed. I set up my accountancy practice when I was 28 years old. People said I was mad but I did it for 12 years. I am relatively rare as one of the self-employed who went into politics. I have a background in politics, but the risks are enormous. I was that soldier. When I...
- Seanad Public Consultation Committee: Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: Discussion (13 Nov 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: I hope they are true. I watch British politics and I question whether the lights are on. Brexit is a disaster for us and the UK. Some of the deliberations at political level in the UK defy logic and do a great disservice to the British public given the impact Brexit will have. In the context of Brexit, the valuation of sterling and so on, are there specific measures the SME sector would...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: European Monetary Policy: Exchange of Views with Mr. Mario Draghi (8 Nov 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: I welcome Mr. Draghi - céad mile fáilte. I will pick up on two issues. In his statement, he said that without sufficient mitigating action, a cliff-edge Brexit could have an adverse impact. I ask him to elaborate on that. What type of mitigating action would he like to take place? What is his hope for Brexit, whether it is hard or soft? What does he expect its implications for...
