Ceisteanna - Questions: Freedom of Information Data (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: -----and 92 back in 2013.

Ceisteanna - Questions: Freedom of Information Data (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: I would not think so.

Ceisteanna - Questions: Freedom of Information Data (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: Deputy Howlin raised a good point. Sometimes when people in the media send in a freedom of information request to a Department or Minister, they like to say the information is an exclusive although it might be available through public sources anyway. No more than when the Deputy was a Minister and he never saw these requests coming in because they were dealt with completely outside his...

Welfare of Greyhounds (Amendment) Bill 2017: First Stage (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: No.

Ceisteanna - Questions: Freedom of Information Data (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: I propose to take Questions 1 and 2 together. In 2016 my Department received 275 freedom of information requests, which was a 59% increase over the number of requests received in 2014, the year in which the new Freedom of Information Act came into operation. Of the 275 requests received in 2016, 51 were fully granted, 133 were part-granted and 57 were refused, including five where no...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Freedom of Information Data (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: As a general principle, I am all for open data except in matters of State security and whatever else. The two questions put down relate to the numbers of FOI requests received. As the Deputy will be well aware from his own time as a Minister, one never sees these requests and has nothing to do with them. I have advised the Department to put them all up on the website when they are...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Freedom of Information Data (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: I tell Deputy Boyd Barrett now - just to be clear - I went along and played a round of golf. The club invited us in for a bowl of soup, a couple of sandwiches and a cup of coffee and, I declare to God, the following week, the Department received an FOI request to know how much this cost the State. I do not know how much it cost the State to provide the answer that there was no charge at all.

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: As the Deputy will be aware, we put together a high-level board at chief executive officer level two years ago in respect of the Shannon Basin and for the first time in 50 years progress was made with what might and could be done. The Minister of State, Deputy Canney, is working hard on this and I will get him to give Deputy Murphy an update on the locations, pinch point or otherwise, where...

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: It is a valid question from Deputy Madigan. Work is under way on this and the heads are expected to come to Government in June.

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: I will ask the Minister to respond to that.

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: I am not clear what Deputy Kenny is trying to ban here. I am aware of the decision by the European Commission today. In so far as Ireland is concerned, our Origin Green of Bord Bia and exports in the food sector are of the highest integrity. They have to be because this is an island nation and we have to export. I am not sure whether the Deputy's question is to ban everything from Brazil.

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: These standards are monitored on a very regular basis. We do not have a Mercosur deal. That is an issue that Europe will consider in due course. These standards are monitored.

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: Decisions are taken, as were taken this morning.

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: That is a priority for the Government for this session and Deputy Durkan will be getting news on that fairly soon.

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: We have approved the matter at Cabinet. I will advise Deputy Ryan and the House of who the statutory chairperson will be.

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: I would suggest that Deputy Scanlon send the details to the Minister of State, Deputy Halligan, because he is handling the school transport scheme.

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: I am sure the Minister of State will be happy to follow-up with Deputy Scanlon on what is an important matter for the families and the school involved.

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: This is a serious issue. The post office sector is undergoing very considerable change both at national and international level, with dramatic changes in electronic communications and online transactions having a heavy impact on the volumes of mail and other service offerings. An Post is a commercial State body and decisions relating to the size and distribution of the network are a matter...

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: The programme for Government sets out what is involved here, such as actively encouraging social welfare payments at post offices. The Minister of State is very happy about that and continuing the contract in respect of post offices. Many people who receive their social welfare payments through post offices want them paid into bank accounts. The question of community banking is being...

Order of Business (21 Mar 2017)

Enda Kenny: -----electronic transfers and online services. As Deputy Healy-Rae knows himself, as a postmaster, there are always changes under way. The community banking facility is being pursued and we will be able to continue social welfare payments. The choice is for consumers as to where they want their money paid. Is it into the post office or a bank account? All these issues will come before...
