Questions on Proposed Legislation (10 Nov 2016)

Mattie McGrath: According to the programme for Government, acquisition of a site for the new children's hospital was estimated to be between €500 million and €750 million. The cost of the chosen site, which in the opinion of many people is unsuitable, excluding fit-out, was €1 billion. Is the Tánaiste aware that the Jack and Jill Children's Foundation was locked out of the...

Questions on Proposed Legislation (10 Nov 2016)

Mattie McGrath: What is the Tánaiste's view on the enormous cost of the site and its suitability as a location for this hospital and is she aware that the Jack and Jill Children's Foundation, which is doing tremendous work on behalf of sick children, was not invited to attend the hearings of the Joint Committee on Health?

Social Welfare Bill 2016: Second Stage (Resumed) (10 Nov 2016)

Mattie McGrath: I thank the Minister and the Leas-Cheann Comhairle for their gracious decision to suspend the sitting to allow the debate to continue. I was absent earlier because I was attending a meeting of the Business Committee. This flexibility may not have been shown so readily in the past. We should be thankful for small mercies and new politics. While the Social Welfare Bill 2016 includes a...

Social Welfare Bill 2016: Second Stage (Resumed) (9 Nov 2016)

Mattie McGrath: I am delighted to speak on the Bill. I compliment Deputy Collins on bringing it forward. I wish to declare an interest. Part of a business in which I am involved does some work for Irish Water. Questions on Proposed Legislation (9 Nov 2016)

Mattie McGrath: The programme for Government refers to the Citizens' Assembly. Is the Taoiseach perfectly happy with the composition and independence of the Citizens' Assembly? Many people throughout the country believe that 100 people can never accurately represent our estimated 3.3 million voters across the Twenty-six Counties and many rural counties, including my own of Tipperary, are not represented at...

Questions on Proposed Legislation (9 Nov 2016)

Mattie McGrath: I am not straying. This is in the programme for Government and it is very important. The Citizens' Assembly takes away from the sovereignty of this House and two of the five members of the expert advisory group are pro-choice campaigners, though I have no qualms about the judge. This is not fair, nor is it open and transparent. It is totally biased.
