Kieran O'Donnell: The VAT cashflow issue can be probably overcome with a change in legislation and excise duty will be charged in the normal way. Tariffs are a fixed cost and cannot be reclaimed. What additional tariffs would be collected by Ireland on imports from the UK?

Kieran O'Donnell: Are there any circumstances in which there is no requirement for any physical check on goods coming in from a third country? I am aware that Revenue is moving towards a risk-based system. Could there be random checks rather than a check at the Border?
