- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Youth: Recruitment and Retention of Special Needs Assistants: Discussion (24 Sep 2025)
- Shane Curley: The reason I ask is because we have anecdotal evidence of OTs going abroad to study occupational therapy because they are not getting the on-the-job training. If that is happening with SNAs and we are losing them to other countries that bring them into their country, educate them and then bring them into their workforce, we are losing huge talent. That needs to be addressed. According to a...

- Shane Curley: I appreciate that, but I only have four minutes. What steps have the officials taken since May?

- Shane Curley: Specifically on the role of the SNA in the classroom-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Youth: Recruitment and Retention of Special Needs Assistants: Discussion (24 Sep 2025)
- Shane Curley: I appreciate that. Is there a timeline for when that work will be concluded and when we will have a definition for SNAs going into the workforce?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Youth: Recruitment and Retention of Special Needs Assistants: Discussion (24 Sep 2025)
- Shane Curley: Thank you. One issue we discussed earlier with Fórsa is that of gender imbalance in the SNA workforce. According to the current data, 94% of SNAs are female. What steps are being taken by the NCSE or the Department to try to rebalance that and make it a more attractive role for males?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Youth: Recruitment and Retention of Special Needs Assistants: Discussion (24 Sep 2025)
- Shane Curley: On a positive note, in the most recent questionnaire, 95% of SNAs reported being at least fairly satisfied with their job. On the negative side, 85% reported feeling at least fairly stressed. A huge issue in that regard is that they do not actually have a full definition of their role in the classroom. That really needs to be addressed. There is a real communications gap where we do not...

- Shane Curley: I thank Mr. Pike. I would welcome a response from Caroline.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (23 Sep 2025)
- Shane Curley: Ar dtús, guím gach rath ar Martin agus Bridget agus iad ag éirí as a bpoist. Best of luck to Martin Hughes in his new role. Yesterday, I visited Carrabane National School outside Loughrea in County Galway. The school has been waiting 20 years for a new school building and it cannot wait any longer. It is a dangerous situation. The floors are collapsing in many of the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish-Speaking Community: Teagasc agus Stádas na Gaeilge sna hInstitiúidí Tríú Leibhéal: Plé (23 Sep 2025)
- Shane Curley: Gabhaim buíochas leis na finnéithe ar fad as a bheith anseo inniu. Ar an gcéad dul síos, tháinig Julian de Spáinn go dtí cúrsa Spleodar in 2005. Ní dóigh liom gur cuimhin leis mé. Bhí mé i measc 200 dalta ar an gcúrsa sin agus is cuimhin liom é fós agus is léir go ndearna sé rud éigin dearfach...

- Shane Curley: Tá ceist agam maidir leis na boird oideachais agus oiliúna. Uaireanta, déanann daoine printíseachtaí go hiomlán trí na ETBs nó na boird oideachais gan dul go hinstitiúid teicneolaíochta. An mbíonn an t-aontas ag plé leo siúd? An dtugtar cuireadh dóibh a bheith mar bhaill den aontas?

- Shane Curley: An féidir é sin a athrú?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish-Speaking Community: Teagasc agus Stádas na Gaeilge sna hInstitiúidí Tríú Leibhéal: Plé (23 Sep 2025)
- Shane Curley: Aontaím. Tá an-obair á déanamh ag an aontas ach tá seans iontach againn béim agus beagáinín brú a chur ar na boird oideachais agus oiliúna. Bhí mé mar bhall de GRETB i nGaillimh agus i Ros Comáin. Bhí an-obair á déanamh ag daoine áirithe scaipthe fud fad an eagrais sin sa dá chontae ach ní raibh...

- Shane Curley: Ba chúntóirí riachtanais speisialta sna hinstitiúidí a bhí i gceist.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish-Speaking Community: Teagasc agus Stádas na Gaeilge sna hInstitiúidí Tríú Leibhéal: Plé (23 Sep 2025)
- Shane Curley: Aontaím. Tá an fhadhb níos luaithe sa chóras, sa bhunscoil agus sa mheánscoil. Ní fhaigheann na múinteoirí ná na hábhair oidí an t-oideachas sa scoil agus níl an Ghaeilge acu sa tríú leibhéal. Níl an t-am acu an Ghaeilge a leanúint agus na cáilíochtaí a bhaint amach. Maidir leis an...

- Shane Curley: Ní thuigim an córas. Faigheann Conradh na Gaeilge airgead ó Fhoras na Gaeilge.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish-Speaking Community: Teagasc agus Stádas na Gaeilge sna hInstitiúidí Tríú Leibhéal: Plé (23 Sep 2025)
- Shane Curley: Tuigim na fadhbanna agus tá mé ar thaobh na bhfinnéithe. Tá mé acu mar áis don Ghaeilge go huile is go hiomlán. Faigheann Conradh na Gaeilge an t-airgead. Luaigh Róisín Ní Chinnéide go mbíonn Órlaith Ní Thuathaigh ag plé le daoine óga sa bhunscoil.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish-Speaking Community: Teagasc agus Stádas na Gaeilge sna hInstitiúidí Tríú Leibhéal: Plé (23 Sep 2025)
- Shane Curley: An bhfuil na dualgais atá ar Chonradh na Gaeilge an-leathan? An dtéann Conradh na Gaeilge isteach go bunscoileanna ag cur na Gaeilge chun cinn? An dtéann sé isteach sna meánscoileanna? Tuigim go bhfuil Conradh na Gaeilge gníomhach sa tríú leibhéal agus go bhfreastalaíonn sé ar na coláistí samhraidh, ar nós Spleodar....
