Bond Repayments: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (27 Nov 2013)

Clare Daly: In a Chamber noted for its brass necks, tonight's performance almost beat all. To have to listen to Deputy Spring, who is a former Anglo Irish Bank employee and who contested an election on a programme of Labour's way or Frankfurt's way, ridicule this motion takes some beating. This individual bragged about the Greek economy being on its knees and somehow thought that was something to crow...

Bond Repayments: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (27 Nov 2013)

Clare Daly: -----fought his election on a lie and it is now being held to account for its record, or lack of it, and not Fianna Fáil. Will the Government instruct our banks to invest our money not in dead banks, but in jobs because the only way in which this economy will recover is by putting people to work? Contrary to the claptrap from the some of the Government backbenchers, the people know...

Forestry Bill 2013: Second Stage (Resumed) (27 Nov 2013)

Clare Daly: Yes, who is at a Whips meeting but I will waffle on until she joins us. This is a hugely important issue and I am happy to contribute to the debate on it. The Bill is modest but it gives us the opportunity to discuss the importance of forestry to the economy currently but also in terms of its potential in the future. The Bill contains some worthwhile measures but we need to do much more....

Other Questions: School Enrolments (26 Nov 2013)

Clare Daly: I am aware the Minister is bringing in a new enrolment policy to synchronise things across the system. This question relates to where parents are asked to pay money upon registering their children, not necessarily in terms of enrolling them but for subsequent years. Does the Minister have any plans to deal with that?

Other Questions: School Enrolments (26 Nov 2013)

Clare Daly: I thank the Minister for his response. The statement was very strong. It is the case that a number of a schools are operating quite a skilful approach in a letter which appears to state that parents must register sons and daughters by a certain date and that there is a fee attached in a way that essentially blackmails or compels them to pay the money or where they feel compelled to pay the...

Other Questions: State Examinations Issues (26 Nov 2013)

Clare Daly: We are told that the extra points for mathematics raises the standard and encourages more people in that direction, but does society benefit? In light of the report published today, which reveals that the courses with high points are almost exclusively dominated by fee-paying schools, is it not the case that people who can opt for maths, and maybe extra tuition, use that advantage?...
