Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Staff Recruitment (19 Apr 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: I thank the Minister of State for her reply. As I said previously, the response is glamorous but it does not solve the problem. The Minister of State has said that there has been a problem in Fermoy since September but the problem did not start then. The HSE would have been aware that a problem was going to arise well before September 2017. I do not want to be seen to be repeating myself....

Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Staff Recruitment (19 Apr 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: I thank the Minister of State, Deputy Catherine Byrne, for coming into the Chamber today but I must say I am disappointed that, again, the Minister of State with line responsibility, Deputy Jim Daly, did not see fit to be here. This is the second time for me to raise the issue here and although he is a Corkman I do not know where his loyalties lie at this stage. I spoke on the issue...

Kevin O'Keeffe: On a point of order, would it be possible to get an overnight here?

Questions on Promised Legislation (18 Apr 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: I ask that because when I came in to the Chamber this morning, a number of Deputies were already here before me. They were at a function that I also attended. I left before them but they were able to get here before me. I do not know what way the numbers are given out but-----

(18 Apr 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: In respect of the roads budget, and I acknowledge there is an increase, does the Department factor in the exceptional weather such as that we experienced in the past number of months? The allocation that came in last January is as good as spent. There has been major infrastructural damage to our regional byroads. Does the Department provide any exceptional funding to sort out these roads...

Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised)
(18 Apr 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: We welcome the Ireland 2040 programme and any capital investment project. We are delighted with programmes where contracts have commenced, for example, the Naas bypass and the Dunkettle interchange project. However, I ask whether the contractors are working within budget constraints. I have passed the Naas bypass project every week for the past couple of months and grave diggers would move...

Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2018
Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised)
(18 Apr 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: Those in place are working hard but for a contract of that size I would have thought more people would be on-site and more machinery would be on-site for the project to work.

(18 Apr 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: Regarding the Minister's comments on our ports' capabilities post Brexit, should Brexit happen, is he aware that our ports' handling facilities are under severe pressure because of the fodder crisis? I have been made aware of many merchants trying to import feedstuffs, be they corn gluten feed or distillers grain. Due to excess demand, though, the ports are not in a position to handle the...

Fodder Shortage: Motion [Private Members] (17 Apr 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: Kevin will do fine.

Fodder Shortage: Motion [Private Members] (17 Apr 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: I thank Deputy Sherlock. I support my colleagues' acknowledgement of the fodder crisis. Last night would have put a mental strain on any farmer. In my own backyard, there was an initial booking of 50 pens of cattle in Fermoy mart for today's trade. Only half the lots turned up, and although they sold at a reasonable price, those farmers were not in a position to bring them home again...
