Nature Restoration Law: Motion [Private Members] (5 Jul 2023)

Martin Browne: I thank the Independent Group for tabling this Private Member's business and Deputies Kerrane and O'Rourke for the amendment. Urgent action is needed to address the fact that when it comes to our climate, future generations are under threat but the manner in which the nature restoration plan was initially presented rightly caused considerable concern among farmers and rural communities....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Ireland's Water Quality: Discussion (5 Jul 2023)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Update on Ireland's Forestry Strategy: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (5 Jul 2023)

Martin Browne: Yes. It is no reflection on the witnesses but I agree with Deputy Fitzmaurice we need the Ministers in here with answers. It is Groundhog Day. Christ, every time we come in here with forestry it is the same thing. We go out more frustrated than we came in because we finish up with no answers to anything. I second the proposal to suspend the meeting.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Update on Ireland's Forestry Strategy: Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (5 Jul 2023)

Martin Browne: When the invitation goes out to the Ministers and Department, it needs to be made clear that, when this meeting is reconvened, every answer that has been sought for months must be on the table in front of us so we are not having a big row again with officials or Ministers. It is like extracting teeth at times.

Matters Arising in RTÉ: Statements (4 Jul 2023)

Martin Browne: Ordinary workers and journalists at RTÉ, as well as the fee-paying public, all feel utterly betrayed when they hear of the slush funds and barter accounts in the golden circles at RTÉ. One of the main issues here is trust, a quality that features prominently on the RTÉ website. Trust has been lost and will be very difficult to regain. There must be serious changes going...
