- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)
Kate O'Connell: Because it is Ireland and it is bespoke, different weighting could be attached to a different one.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)
Kate O'Connell: Exactly.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)
Kate O'Connell: A huge number of variables here.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)
Kate O'Connell: Finally, and I am sorry I am keeping the Chair this late, according to the briefing we got, Eir should not have been required to establish a new company. I found that because I sit on the Committee of Public Accounts and I have been through this previously on a number of occasions. My understanding was Eir was a larger company, Open Eir, and it had all sorts of parts selling other bits and...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)
Kate O'Connell: It was making it unpleasant for Eir.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)
Kate O'Connell: I am obsessed with the overlaying on the Eir poles.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)
Kate O'Connell: Somewhere along the line, they made reference to next-generation technology. Is what is going on the overlaying, the next layer of cable, fancier than the Eir cable that is under it? Is it more modern?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: National Broadband Plan: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)
Kate O'Connell: There is probably a value in putting in the next generation technology. If we had incorporated the not-so-new generation cable in the system, it could have needed an intervention.
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Treatment of Former Garda (18 Jun 2019)
Kate O'Connell: I wish to correct the Minister as it was me who raised in the Chamber the pension being backdated not Deputy O'Callaghan.
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Treatment of Former Garda (18 Jun 2019)
Kate O'Connell: I hope I am not misquoting the Minister when I say that he said that Ms Moynihan feels she was treated badly. I believe there is not a person in Ireland who thinks that she was treated in any way other than badly. It is certainly not acceptable by our standards today. I have said before that it is important for Members of this House to check our privilege on occasion, not the privilege of...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Treatment of Former Garda (18 Jun 2019)
Kate O'Connell: One would have had to be made of stone not to have been moved by the bravery and resilience of Majella Moynihan as she told her story at the weekend on national radio. We are all aware of the legacy of cruelty of this State when it comes to the treatment of women. Majella was the perfect example of all things that Ireland looked down on. Reared in an industrial school, pregnant out of...
- Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 40 - Children and Youth Affairs (13 Jun 2019) Kate O'Connell: To follow up on Dr. Lynch's comments, is he suggesting there were no electronic records until two years ago? My understanding, based on the answers given to Deputy Cassells, is that the Department started its auditing two years ago. Was everything being filled in on paper before then? I would argue that electronic records started much earlier than two years ago.
- Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 40 - Children and Youth Affairs (13 Jun 2019) Kate O'Connell: We are now in 2019. If we go back two years, we are in 2017. There were, therefore, three years of electronic records that were not being checked in terms of attendance versus headcount.
- Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 40 - Children and Youth Affairs (13 Jun 2019) Kate O'Connell: In response to a question from Deputy Cassells, Dr. Lynch stated, "Pobal organises all of the schemes for us and it also carries out compliance work." Does Dr. Lynch believe Pobal did that job? If Pobal could not organise the scheme, and if it did not have either small or large providers using anything other than a pen and paper - which, by the looks of things, was completely inadequate -...
