- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Restructuring of Mental Health Services: HSE (16 May 2018)
Tom Neville: That refers to the €35 million. I am talking about the continuation or improvement of existing services. The last day the witnesses were here in front of me they could give me a figure of how much was spent as new money and how much was spent on improving existing services. I use the term "plugging gaps", the witnesses use the term "improvement of existing services". I cannot be...

Tom Neville: Is Ms O'Connor telling me that nobody makes the final decision? Is it a collective decision? Where is the accountability in the making of that decision?

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Restructuring of Mental Health Services: HSE (16 May 2018)
Tom Neville: I am just trying to ascertain how much of the €35 million in 2016 went into new service and how much went into the continuation of existing services.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Restructuring of Mental Health Services: HSE (16 May 2018)
Tom Neville: No. I will rephrase it again. It is pretty simple. Some €35 million was given in 2016. That was for the development of new services. We were told that all of it could not be spent and that some of it went into the continuation or improvement of existing services. I just want to know how much was put into the continuation or improvement of existing services. That is all.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Restructuring of Mental Health Services: HSE (16 May 2018)
Tom Neville: I asked for that figure six months ago and I still have not got it. I asked the witnesses for it the last time they were in here.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Restructuring of Mental Health Services: HSE (16 May 2018)
Tom Neville: I totally agree with the Chairman's comment. As the people who sign off on the budget, we are accountable to the public for that. From the specialist perspective, we would like to know what is being spent. I understand from an audit perspective the boxes are ticked on the back end and we have had this discussion, thrashing it out already. From the front end - I am making a decision as a...

Tom Neville: Could we get specific dates?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Restructuring of Mental Health Services: HSE (16 May 2018)
Tom Neville: There is also recruitment. I asked about this the last day and, without being disrespectful to those who were here the last day, they were probably not the right people to speak to us about recruitment. A flow chart was required of the end-to-end process relating to recruitment, how that recruitment takes place and how each stakeholder comes into the recruitment process. I am not...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Restructuring of Mental Health Services: HSE (16 May 2018)
Tom Neville: Before we summarise, I have had a look at the CAMHS videos that were discussed. I have not been able to hear them but the graphics and so on look quite good. There should be a campaign plan put together to market them because the views are very low. I know they only went up in the last three weeks-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Future of Mental Health Care: Restructuring of Mental Health Services: HSE (16 May 2018)
Tom Neville: Only in the last three days in the case of some of them. There should be a marketing campaign to start pushing that out. The videos should also be subtitled for people who might be hearing impaired.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Tackling Childhood Obesity: Discussion (Resumed) (16 May 2018)
Tom Neville: I am interested in the witnesses' views on weighing kids. From speaking to teachers anecdotally, there seems to be a flip side to PE. Obviously, I take on board the point that facilities might not be there but there seems to be a push back relating to some culture or subculture regarding the lack of interaction with PE on the part of students. Have any studies been done on the reason for...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Tackling Childhood Obesity: Discussion (Resumed) (16 May 2018)
Tom Neville: A quorum has been called in the Dáil. I apologise that I have to leave. I want to hear what Mr. Duffy is saying but I am being summoned. I will be back in about five minutes.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Tackling Childhood Obesity: Discussion (Resumed) (16 May 2018)
Tom Neville: I have a quick question. I am going to brainstorm a bit, if the committee will indulge me. I am going back to 2008 or 2009, if I remember correctly, and the advent of Wii technology. Can people remember Wii technology and computer games? I do not know if anyone does but someone may. The smart phone is taking everything over and it is leading to people not interacting, engaging or...
