- Questions on Promised Legislation (6 Apr 2017)
Louise O'Reilly: I wish to ask about the assisted human reproduction Bill, which I have raised a few times. I was advised via a parliamentary question that officials were working on the heads of the Bill last year, but many families are desperate to know when we will see it. A report was undertaken by the Health Research Board, HRB, but my understanding is that this has been concluded. If nothing is...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Bill 2016: Discussion (30 Mar 2017)
Louise O'Reilly: I thank Deputy Howlin and the Chairman. I take the opportunity to thank journalists like Ms Ellen Coyne for the good work done in pointing us to something that many of us would have known was going on and for shining a fairly bright light on it. Fair play to her for that. I refer to the agency that was most recently highlighted in the media and the sort of disgraceful information that it...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Bill 2016: Discussion (30 Mar 2017)
Louise O'Reilly: I am sorry that I was not present for the first part of Ms Cody's statement. The major issue is the revelations in the media of how vulnerable women were treated. Notwithstanding the good intentions of those behind the Bill, I am still not quiet convinced, given what Ms Cody said in her statement about people who did not necessarily call themselves counsellors. The Bill has been designed...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Bill 2016: Discussion (30 Mar 2017)
Louise O'Reilly: It is not like the position regarding nurses. If one is a nurse, there are certain criteria that obtain whereas it is different for counsellors. It is not linked to qualifications or-----

Louise O'Reilly: I thank Ms Walsh.
- National Children's Hospital: Motion [Private Members] (29 Mar 2017)
Louise O'Reilly: I am sharing time with Deputy Cullinane. I thank the Deputies from the Rural Independent Group for bringing this motion forward and giving us the opportunity to discuss the national children's hospital. This discussion is needed. Sinn Féin is not in a position to support this motion. While we agree with much of what is contained in it, we cannot support it in its entirety. That is...
- Questions on Promised Legislation (29 Mar 2017)
Louise O'Reilly: I ask for an update on the new children's hospital establishment Bill. This legislation has been a long time coming. According to the list of priority legislation, the heads of the Bill were due early in 2017. Clearly, that has passed so I ask for an indication of when they will be published, particularly in light of the fact that we will be discussing this issue in the House this evening.

- Health (Amendment) Bill 2017: Committee and Remaining Stages (22 Mar 2017)
Louise O'Reilly: I wish to correct the Minister of State. He mentioned that tests were offered where clinically indicated, but they are screening tests. There cannot be a clinical indication before a woman has had the screening test. The tests are not being offered to women. Along with other Deputies, I would like to hear a commitment from the Minister of State on a timeframe.
- Select Committee on the Future of Healthcare: Health Service Reform: Minister for Health (22 Mar 2017)
Louise O'Reilly: I welcome the Minister and his officials. One of the terms of reference of the committee is the need to establish a universal, single-tier health service where patients are treated on the basis of need rather than ability to pay. I do not see how that fits with what the Minister says with regard to performance incentives and his heavy duty reference to the private sector. It appears that...
