- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (24 May 2021)
Pauline O'Reilly: I join with the Cathaoirelach in celebrating Croatia day today. Some 22,000 Croatians have moved to Ireland since Croatia joined the EU, and they have family beyond it. It is a good day for Ireland to celebrate with Croatians and to speak about the importance of the EU. On a related matter, I was stunned and shocked at the assault on our Union when a flight was diverted. It is piracy in...
- Seanad: Organisation of Working Time (Reproductive Health Related Leave) Bill 2021: Second Stage (24 May 2021)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank the Labour Senators for bringing forward this Bill. I have already let them know of my support on this issue. When the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth was here previously, I said that I would be supportive. I must disagree with Senator Mullen. I think there is a taboo around women's healthcare. The life of a woman is wonderfully diverse and...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Reduction of Carbon Emissions of 51% by 2030: Discussion (Resumed) (18 May 2021)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank everybody for what has been a fascinating meeting today. Much has been covered. I sometimes wonder how different policies might be if birds could vote. It is great to hear Ms Duggan say it is an exciting time because when we look through the list of species that have moved from green to amber and amber to red, it feels a little overwhelming, to say the least. It is great to hear...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: School Bullying and the Impact on Mental Health: Discussion (Resumed) (18 May 2021)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank all of our guests. I enjoyed listening to their perspectives, as always. I will first address the issue of RSE, on which I fundamentally disagree with Senator Mullen. People need to see their families and their lives reflected in the kind of education they get and they need to feel comfortable in their own skin to be resilient and show compassion and empathy for others. That is...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: School Bullying and the Impact on Mental Health: Discussion (Resumed) (18 May 2021)
Pauline O'Reilly: Yes; I addressed my deep philosophical points to all four witnesses.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Employment and Labour Market Participation: Discussion (Resumed) (18 May 2021)
Pauline O'Reilly: It is good to see the witnesses again and to have three Galway people, one after the other. I said last week that it is always a pleasure to see the trucks going around Galway. It makes a big difference because of the impact that it has not just on the community that the witnesses are serving but also because everybody sees that and it is almost an advertisement for the work that Travellers...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Employment and Labour Market Participation: Discussion (Resumed) (18 May 2021)
Pauline O'Reilly: The fact internships do not evolve into jobs is a big blockage. We can all pat ourselves on the back that we have internships but they never produce anything. It is great to hear from Fórsa that standards exist once people are in the jobs. We must now focus, therefore, on getting people into jobs and ending any blockages.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 May 2021)
Pauline O'Reilly: I am practically tearing my hair out as, I know, is Senator Chambers, about the inequality in our healthcare services around the country. Time and time again, we are told that things are opening up for women in maternal healthcare and they simply are not. We are not seeing it on the ground. We should not have to take to Instagram, which I have seen countless women do, or Twitter and...
- Seanad: Young People: Motion (17 May 2021)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank the Fine Gael Senators, particularly Senator Seery Kearney, for their work on this and welcome the Minister. Young people have had a particularly difficult couple of years. The fact that we are talking about this today shows that we value them and acknowledge that difficult period and that we must make moves to ensure it does not have a negative impact on their lives. One thing...
- Seanad: Affordable Housing Bill 2021: Second Stage (17 May 2021)
Pauline O'Reilly: I welcome the Minister. In order to tackle the housing crisis, of which every one of us is acutely aware and, I believe, wants to solve, the boom to bust nature of housing must be eliminated. Cost rental is the key that will free us from this boom-to-bust housing model that has dominated Ireland. Given time, it will calm the market across the board and allow people to have a forever home....

- Seanad: Affordable Housing Bill 2021: Second Stage (17 May 2021)
Pauline O'Reilly: I have been informed that they word "lying" should not be used in the Chamber.
