Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Cardiovascular Health, Stroke and Heart Attack: Discussion (13 Dec 2023)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Cardiovascular Health, Stroke and Heart Attack: Discussion (13 Dec 2023)

Neasa Hourigan: Exactly, because nobody is representing these patients on the NHP. Ms O'Shea talked a little about the difference between the cohort who might experience an event and then maybe need quite long rehabilitation and people who may be born with a congenital issue. It strikes me that there is a parallel between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. We have had a very successful approach to type 1 with...

Neasa Hourigan: Is that the kind of thing Ms O'Shea would like to see for people who have congenital issues with which they have to live for ever and ever?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Cardiovascular Health, Stroke and Heart Attack: Discussion (13 Dec 2023)

Neasa Hourigan: Ms O'Shea is a very good advocate for her group. I know I am out of time but I will just propose that we write to the CMO and the HSE. There absolutely should be a patient advocate or representative involved in any programme like this. It touches on a great many people's lives and it is completely unacceptable that this has been the case for three years.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Update on Sláintecare Reforms (Resumed) (6 Dec 2023)

Neasa Hourigan: I want to move to digital servicers but before I do, I will go back to one question answered by Mr. Patterson about purchasing existing sites or buildings for elective hospitals. I want a bit of clarification in that regard. Mr. Patterson said it was not possible to locate buildings in Cork, Dublin and Galway. Is that what he said? That implies there was an attempt to look at it as a...
