Rose Conway Walsh: -----Brexit and bailiffs. Brats as well. That is the only way to describe it.
- Seanad: Order of Business (20 Dec 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: We have had lots of confidence and very little supply. That sums up what I have to say. There has been consistent support throughout the year for the bankers and bondholders with tax holidays and such. I am mindful, as Christmas approaches, of how many people are struggling to get by and pay their mortgages. There are no write-downs for them and they fear the bailiffs coming in January....

- Seanad: Order of Business (20 Dec 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: We have the challenge of Brexit, with the nonsense of the public schoolboys and the Eton mess, and other serious business to deal with in 2019.
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Services for People with Disabilities (19 Dec 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: I thank the Minister of State for coming before the House to discuss this matter. Áras Attracta is a residential respite day service for adults with intellectual disabilities in Mayo. The HSE directly manages Áras Attracta, which, as the Minister of State knows, works in partnership with other statutory and voluntary organisations to deliver intellectual disability services to the...
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Services for People with Disabilities (19 Dec 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: I thank the Minister of State for his response. The crux of the matter is that the geography of Mayo means that it is not acceptable to expect people to travel from one end of the county to the other to access day services. Furthermore, we do not know anything about the service provider, Praxis. Is this a privatising of the services? Will Praxis be based in Ballina? Will someone from...

Rose Conway Walsh: I only wish to ensure that no one will be left behind.
- Seanad: Order of Business (19 Dec 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: I can hardly believe that I am standing here to say this today. It relates to the junior bondholders of Anglo Irish Bank who were given the full value of their bonds from the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation, IBRC, to the value of €270 million. Those are the banks that we have already paid €35 billion, between Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Nationwide. People right across the...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Suckler Beef Sector: Discussion with Irish Farmers Association (18 Dec 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: Thank you, a Chathaoirligh, and I thank the IFA for this report. It is important, particularly in the climate that we are in with Brexit and so on. My interest stems from the extent to which it impacts on the west of Ireland, with 80% of the cows there being suckler cows. I am deeply concerned about the pressures being put on the suckler cow herd and the impact they will have on the wider...
- Seanad: Order of Business (18 Dec 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: I ask for the Minister for Health to come to the House to explain the €100 million overrun on the national children's hospital. Day after day and week after week I stand here being told that Sinn Féin is not on top of economic issues and asking what would happen if Sinn Féin were running the economy. However, a project like this overrunning by €100 million is...
- Seanad: Consumer Protection (Regulation of Credit Servicing Firms) Bill 2018: Committee Stage (18 Dec 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: I move amendment No. 1:In page 5, to delete lines 8 to 19. I welcome the Bill, which will contribute to the solution to address the scourge of vulture funds. However, it is only part of the picture. Even this part of the picture may be incomplete if we fail to undo the provision inserted by Fianna Fáil in the Dáil. Fianna Fáil has chosen to exclude securitisation vehicles...

Rose Conway Walsh: Confidence and supply.
- Seanad: Consumer Protection (Regulation of Credit Servicing Firms) Bill 2018: Committee Stage (18 Dec 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: My concerns remain. They are genuine concerns. Can the Minister of State answer the question now about whether Glenbeigh will be regulated as part of this Bill? Will it be regulated? My understanding is it will not as part of the Bill. We are leaving a loophole that will come back to bite us. The fact it will be administratively over-burdensome should not be reason to fail to address...
