Crime: Statements (5 May 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: I welcome the opportunity to speak on this important issue. As a public representative, it is an issue which exercises my constituents regularly, especially if there is a spate of criminal activity in our area. In Offaly-north Tipperary, there has been yet another spate of burglaries of retail premises, farmyards and private dwellings. From what I have been told by local Garda management,...

Climate Change: Statements (4 May 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: The climate change challenge is global and, perhaps because we are a small island surrounded by water, we might think that other nations with larger populations and higher emissions should take the lead. It is true that they should take the lead but as a small island country, we should not be behind the door in calling on them to reduce carbon emissions. That does not mean that we are let...

Irish Water: Statements (27 Apr 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: -----as were Deputies Niall Collins and Timmy Dooley, former Deputy, Sandra McLellan, Deputy Catherine Murphy and Senator Labhrás Ó Murchú. I could go on but the evidence is all there. We can look at the cost of putting in a system to store and treat water for people in rural areas. Does Deputy Ellis know how much that costs? Does he know how much it cost my neighbours?...

Irish Water: Statements (27 Apr 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: That is my experience. I have another question. Did people who received the conservation grant pay their bills? I would like to know whether anybody is investigating that. I have been told that people obtained a conservation grant and the reason they were given that grant was to assist them. As far as I am concerned, it is fraud if they received the grant but did not pay their bill.

Irish Water: Statements (27 Apr 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: I very much welcome the opportunity to make a statement on Irish Water. I have been paying for domestic water since 1988. I also paid to have a septic tank installed and I regularly pay to have it cleaned. My perspective on water and wastewater is that they cost money. If people want free water and wish to defecate in public, they should do so by all means. Ultimately, however, we must...

Irish Water: Statements (27 Apr 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: It sounds like they are saying they should be let go.

Irish Water: Statements (27 Apr 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: These people are employed by a utility, Irish Water, and the Opposition is arguing that of them should be let go. That would be the consequence of its position.

Irish Water: Statements (27 Apr 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: I have an interesting point to make to Deputy Ellis given that he raised his voice. I was a member of the Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht when it was asked in 2012 to carry out an investigation into a report on the provision of water. A significant amount of work was done by that committee to establish whether we needed a water utility and the topics we reviewed...

Mental Health Services: Statements (26 Apr 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: We are running out of time. If the Deputy wants to hear the responses, he should allow the Minister to continue.

Mental Health Services: Statements (26 Apr 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: It is the Minister’s prerogative to respond to the speeches made earlier. Deputy Kelleher knows, because he has the experience of having been in this House for a very long time, that there is a rota for the various Ministries.

Mental Health Services: Statements (26 Apr 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: I invite the Minister to continue with his speech, if Deputy Kelleher does not mind. We are to adjourn at 6.30 p.m. so Deputy Kelleher is wasting time.

Mental Health Services: Statements (26 Apr 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: One voice, please.

Mental Health Services: Statements (26 Apr 2016)

Marcella Corcoran Kennedy: Deputy Brian Stanley is sharing with Deputies Carol Nolan and Maurice Quinlivan. The Deputies have ten minutes. Before they commence, I remind Members that if they overshoot their allocated time it means that they are eating into the time of other Deputies who have yet to speak. These are time-limited allocation slots.
