Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Not-for-Profit Sector: Discussion (19 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: I welcome the various organisations' representatives. A few weeks ago, I saw the social entrepreneur awards and the Irish Men's Sheds Association won the main award. That was a pretty good platform from which to promote various organisations. Mr. Mulconry said he wanted to get to €800 million by 2016, which is in two years' time. His organisation seems to be doing a lot of the...

Health (Alteration of Criteria for Eligibility) (No. 2) Bill 2013: Second Stage (Resumed) (13 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: There is no doubt that this Bill will be passed, given the Government's majority. What should be noted about this debate is the complete lack of speakers on the Government side of the House over the course of the debate. They will press the buttons and support the Bill but there has been a paucity of speakers and most of the contributions have been from this side of the House. This is the...

Dara Calleary: They need to invest in the small to medium-sized enterprise, SME, community, the same community the Government promised it would deal with upward-only rent reviews. Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)

In the earlier discussion with Deputy Lawlor, Ms Murray mentioned that some of Microfinance Ireland's approvals are already experiencing difficulties in repayment. What percentage of arrears is Microfinance Ireland already experiencing? Second, the information provided to the joint committee today has been excellent. I believe it would be worth...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: They have morning programmes on which, unlike in Dublin, they actually allow one to talk. It is an information exchange, as opposed to an exchange of opinion and I really believe that in those counties in which Microfinance Ireland may be below target, it should consider using the local radio stations. Members would be more than happy to facilitate introductions for the witnesses.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Progress Update: Discussion with Microfinance Ireland (12 Nov 2013)

Dara Calleary: Local radio serves the purpose of getting across information and Microfinance Ireland's communications strategy should involve the local radio sector.
