Seanad: Order of Business (21 Feb 2008)

Paul Coghlan: I thank the Leader for his kind offer of a debate on the proposed closure of the vital coastguard stations at Valentia and Malin. Could he clarify whether he intends to have this debate next week or the following week? Seanad: Order of Business (20 Feb 2008)

Paul Coghlan: I second the proposal of Senator Frances Fitzgerald. This so-called independent body which is to be appointed to deal with the issue of pharmacists' fees is not really independent, as we know, and the end result is predetermined. We also know there was no consultation with the pharmacists on the terms of reference. In fact, it was a unilateral action which was in essence a breach of...

Seanad: Order of Business (20 Feb 2008)

Paul Coghlan: I think it is. I share the disappointment of the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Deputy Gormley, Dr. Allen Mee, everyone in the national parks and wildlife service, and everybody associated with Irish tourism. These birds were absent for more than 100 years. The Minister came to Killarney to release these chicks into the wild last year.

Seanad: Order of Business (20 Feb 2008)

Paul Coghlan: Perhaps the Leader and I could have a word about how we might improve the educational aspects in respect of this wonderful project.

Seanad: Order of Business (19 Feb 2008)

Paul Coghlan: I wonder whether Senator MacSharry was a little harsh, but he may have been well intentioned. I agree with the Cathaoirleach's remarks and will abide by them. I second Senator O'Toole's slight amendment to the Order of Business regarding the inclusion of Nos. 14 and 15. I wish to mention the issue of Valentia Island and Malin Head. Valentia is the oldest Coast Guard station in the country...

Seanad: Order of Business (14 Feb 2008)

Paul Coghlan: I agree with and support Senator Twomey's call to the Leader to arrange a debate to allow the Minister for Education and Science to deal with the issue of the education of children, particularly children with special needs and autism. A very serious charge has been made. It would be serious if there is lingering animosity on the part of civil servants in that Department. We do not know if...
